Narrative of the War and Friendship between Kansa and Shankhachuda: The Slaying of Shankhachuda by Krishna
Says Srinardji - Rajan. Krishna then went with the Vrajanganas to the Lohajadanga forest, which was dominated by the Madhavi and other creepers of the spring. Srihari decorated all the gopis there with beautiful flower garlands that spread the fragrance of the forest. Shyamsundar began to wander with his mistresses on the Yamuna, surrounded by a fragrant air filled with the hum of illusions. While wandering, Raseshwara Krishna reached the Mahapunya Van, which was covered with dense trees like Kareel, Peelu, and Shyam Tamal and Tal. There, Srihari, along with Raseshwari Sriradha and Gopanganas, began the rasa while listening to their chanting. At that time, he was adorned like Indra, a god surrounded by apsaras singing praises. 1 - 5.
The king! A strange thing happened there, you hear it from my mouth. There was a mighty yaksha known as Shankhachuda, who was a servant of Kubera. There was no other mace-wielding warrior on this surface like him. One day, upon hearing the loud voice of Ugrasenkumar Kansake from my mouth, he came to Mathura from his abode with a heavy mace made of the mighty Yaksharaja lac iron. The drunken hero reached the court, bowed to Kansa, who was seated on the throne, and said, "O king! I have heard that you are a valiant Tribhuvan conqueror; so give me the opportunity of a mace fight with you. If you are victorious, I will be your slave, and if I am victorious, I will immediately make you my slave. 'Well done! Then, with a huge mace in hand, saying 'Tathastu', Kamsa began to battle Shankhachuda in the theatre. A fierce duel ensued between the two of them. The sound of the two exchanging blows sounded similar to the thunder and lightning of the Holocaust. In that theatre, Kansa and Shankhachuda were fighting with each other like two Mallas, two Natas of the Natya Mandali, two Gajarajas with huge limbs, and two ferocious lions. The king! Struggling with their desire to conquer each other, the maces of the two heroes crashed into each other, sending sparks of fire. Kansa, in a fit of rage, punched the yaksha; then Shankhachudana also punched Kansa. Twenty-seven days passed before the two of them exchanged blows in this way. Neither of the two men lost any of their strength. Both of them were amazed at each other's prowess. Subsequently, the daitya king Mahabali Kansa suddenly captured Shankhachuda and forcefully threw him into the sky. He went up a hundred yojanas. When Shankhachuda fell rapidly from the sky, he felt a little uneasy, yet he too caught Kansaku and threw him ten thousand yojanas high into the sky. Kansa also fell from the sky and felt a bit distressed. Then he caught the yaksha and suddenly killed him on earth. Then Shankhachudane also caught Kansaku and knocked him to the ground. Thus the earth trembled as the fierce battle raged on. In the meantime, the omniscient sage Gargacharya came there directly. The two saw him on the stage and bowed before him, then Gargan said to Kansa in an energetic voice. 6 - 21. (Vrindavan Khand Chapter 21 to 26)
Srigarji said, "Rajendra! Don't go to war. This war is not going to yield any results. This Mahabali Shankhachud is as heroic as you are. Gajraj Airavat had knelt on the ground after being hit by your puncher and was very faint. Many more demons have fallen to their death by your punching, but the conch shell could not be crushed. There is no doubt that it is invincible to you. Listen to the reason for it. Just as the Supreme Personality of Godhead is about to slay you, so will Lord Shiva slay this mighty conch shell. Therefore, Yadunandan. You have to love the conch shell. Yakshagana! You must also have love for Kansa. 22-26 |
Srinardji says - Rajan! At Gargacharya's behest, Shankhachuda and Kamsa met and fell deeply in love with each other. After that, leaving Kansa, Shankhachud started going to his home. On his way at night, he found Rasmandal. There, he heard a melodious melody laced with rhythm and melody. Then he had darshan of Raseshwara Krishna with Sriraseshwari in Raas. His left arm was adorned over Sriradha's shoulder. He stood with his right foot bent at will. The hands were shining brightly with a gentle smile on their faces. Kamadeva, the zodiac sign, was enamored with their planet. Vrajeshwara Krishna, the youthful lord of the Vraja-Sundaris, was well-served by the Koti-Koti Chhatra-Chaivara. Knowing that he was a very tender child, Shankhachuda thought of taking the gopis to Har. 27-31 |
Bahulashva asked, "Wiprawar! You know the past and the future; so tell me, what happened to Shankhachuda when he came to Rasmandal? . 32.
Srinardji said, "Rajan! The face of the conch shell resembled a tiger, and the body was very black. He was as tall as ten palms and looked fierce with his tongue curled up and jaws licked. Seeing this, the Gopangas panicked and started running around. This led to a huge commotion. Thus, as soon as the conch shell arrived, there was an uproar in the Rasmandal. He caught the lustful evil Yakshagana Gopasundari named Shatachandranana and ran north without any fear or apprehension. May Shatachandran be troubled by the fear of 'Krishna! Krishna! Oh! She started crying and crying. Seeing this, Krishna became very angry and ran after him, taking the Shalaka tree in his hands. As time went on, Yaksha saw Durjaya following Krishna and left that Gopi and fled with a desire to save his life. Wherever Mahadushta Shankhachuda fled, Shri Krishna also went with great fury, taking the sal tree in his hands. 33-38 | (Vrindavan Khand Chapter 21 to 26)
The king! Arriving in the Himalayan valley, the Yakshagana also took off a shawl and stood before them, especially out of desire for war. The god struck the sal tree on the conch shell with his forearm. The conch shell fell to the earth like a tree uprooted by a storm from its impact. Shankhachudana got up again and punched Lord Krishna. The wicked yaksha, after killing him, roared suddenly, shouting all the directions. Then Srihari caught him with both hands and turned him with the force of his arms and threw him to the earth in the same manner as Vayu throws away the uprooted lotus. Shankhachudane also caught Krishna and threw him to the earth. When the war began in this way, the whole world trembled. Then Madhav Shrikrishna separated his head from the torso by punching it and took its chudamani - just like how a virtuous man gets a treasure from somewhere. O Lord! A huge flame came out of Shankhachuda's body and, electrifying the Dingamandala, the Śrīkṛṣṇa sakha merged with the Śrīdāma in the Vraja. Thus, after slaying Shankhachuda, Lord Madhusudana took the gem in his hand, then soon entered the rasa-mandala. Dinavatsala Srihari gave that gem to Shatachandran and again started the rasa with all the Gopanganas. 39-47 |
Thus was completed the twenty-third chapter in the Srigarghasamhita, titled 'The Slaying of Shankhachuda', in the context of Rasa Krida under Vrindavan Khanda. 23.
