English translation
Malla-Krida - Preparation for the festival; the slaying of Kuvalayapida at Rangadwar and the initiation of Krishna and Balarama into a wrestling match with Chanur and Mushti.
Waking up in the morning, he called the activists and ordered them to start the Mallakrida festival. The stage was set in a large courtyard in front of the auditorium. Gold poles were erected there, golden anklets were drawn, and pearl rings were hung in them. O Lord! With the beautiful steps and the golden stage, the theatre began to take on a grandeur. A gilded stage was set up for the king. A perfume was put on top of it. Indra's throne was installed on that platform. Beautiful beds and pillows were laid on top of it. The enchanting divine canopy resembling the moon and the ten-handed throne made by Vishwakarma, adorned with diamond-studded figurines and leather, is a fascinating tale. On top of it, King Kansa was sitting on the top of the mountain, behaving like a lion. There, songs were sung by the Gaekwads, the Waranganas began to dance, and musical instruments such as the Mridanga, Patah, Tal, Bheri, and Anak were played. 4-10 |
The king! The kings, the rulers of the smaller troupes, and the elders, the residents of the towns and districts, sat on separate platforms and watched the wrestling. Wrestlers such as Chanur, Mushtiq, Koot, Shaal, and Toshal, armed with exercise-enabled muskets, were practicing mutual warfare. Called by Kansaka, Nandaraja and Adi Gopa bowed before the king and took shelter on stage one by one. Nareshwar. There were also gifts from the cities of Banasura, Jarasandha, and Narakasura for Yadura king Kansa. Others who were Bhoopals, such as Shambhar, also received many gifts. 11-14 |
Later, brothers Balarama and Krishna, disguised as children, came to the stadium to watch the Malla play. An elephant named Kuvalayapida stood at the entrance of the Rangamandapa, with letters composed of vermilion and musk woven in cow urine at the Kumbh Sthal. From the gundasthala of the great Gajaraja, covered with jewelled coils, flowed wine. Seeing the elephant standing at the door, Lord Krishna said in a serious voice to the Mahavata - 'Oh! Take away this Gajraj and give me the way as I wish. Otherwise, I will slay you and your elephant on the ground floor now. " 15-18 | (Mathurukund Chapter 6 to 10)
The enraged Mahavata then proceeded to attack Nandanandana with an elephant of the same opinion, shouting in all directions. Gajaraja immediately captured and lifted Srihariko from the noose. But by increasing his weight further, Srihari slipped out of his grip. As Srihari hid in the niches of Vrindavan, he wandered and hid between the legs of Kuvalayapida. The elephant extended its snout and grabbed them, but Srihari stepped out from behind, pressing his snout with both hands. The elephant then turned sideways and tried to capture them, but Madhav pounced on it and ran ahead. The king of Vidharaja. The Gajaraja ran away and pursued Sriharika. At that time, there was commotion in Mathurapuri. Then Srihari turned around and came out here in the back. Mahabali Baldev, on the other hand, held the serpent with his sleeves and pulled it backwards, just as Garuda holds it. Laughing then, Lord Krishna forcefully grabbed its trunk with both his hands and began to pull it forward in the same manner as a human pulls a rope from a well. Oh dear God! The elephant was disturbed by the attraction of the two brothers. Then the seven Mahavats climbed upon the elephant by force. At the same time, Mahavata II also brought three hundred elephants there to slay Lord Krishna. Angered by the Mahavata's injury to the trunk, the drunken elephant leaned back towards Lord Krishna. Lord Krishna then caught hold of Baldevji's trunk and spun it around, throwing it to the earth as if a child had knocked down a kamandalu. The seven Mahavats mounted on it fell here and there, and the elephant perished in the sight of the monks gathered there. Woe to you! A light came out of his body and merged with Srighanashyam. 19-31 |
Mahabali, Balarama, and Krishna uprooted both the tusks of the elephant and killed all the Mahavats just as the children of the two lions killed many deer. The other mahouts, who were left behind when the elephant was killed, ran around and hid in the same manner as the clouds merge here and there as the rainy season passes. Thus, Balarama and Krishna, who had slain Kuvalayapida and drawn it with drops of sweat and an elephant, entered the theatre with great haste, hearing their cheers from the gopas and the rest of the audience. At that time they both had red faces due to overwork, with ivory teeth on their hands. They reached the stage with great speed like Anil and Anal walking together in both directions. At that time, the Mallas considered him Mahamalla and the men Narendra. The Naris regarded him as Kamadeva and the Gopas as the masters of Vraja. In the eyes of the father, he became known as a son and appeared to the wicked as Yamaraja with a staff. Kansa thought of him as his own death and the wise men saw him as Virat Brahma. At that time, Sri Krishna, who was accompanying Balarama to the theatre, was perceived as the supreme being by the Yogishiromani Mahatmya Purusha. All kinds of people saw and understood that perfect god Srihari in different forms according to their different feelings. 32-37 | (Mathurukund Chapter 6 to 10)
Hearing that the elephant had been killed and seeing those Mahabali brothers, Manasvi Kansa was terrified and the other people sitting on the stage were filled with joy and happiness, and just as the disciples are happy to see the moon, they are filled with ecstasy seeing them. The people of the city were very curious and started whispering to each other, 'These two Vasudevanandans are the true Supreme Personality of Godhead.' Ahhh! The Vrajamandala is very picturesque and exquisite, where these real Madhava's have been wandering, and whose rare sightings today make us all the more grateful. 38-40 |
Naradji says - Maithil! Chanur went to both Balarama and Krishna and said this while the villagers were talking and playing various instruments. 41.
Chanur said, "O Rama! O Krishna! Both of you are very powerful, so fight in front of the Maharaj, showing your strength. If Yadukulatilaka Mahārāja Kamsa was pleased with this war, what good would not come to you and us? (That is, everything will happen). 42. (Mathurukund Chapter 6 to 10)
Chanur said - Neither you are a child nor Balramji is a teenager. You are indeed strong even among the strong, for you have killed Kulayapida, who possesses the strength of a thousand-armed elephants, in a game of dice. 44.
Naradji says - Rajan. Hearing such words of Chanur, Aghamardana began to wrestle with Lord Krishna Chanur and Balaramji, the mighty one, with Mushti. They would hold each other's shoulder sticks with both arms, pull them towards them, and push them back. In the sight of the people, the two brothers fought their enemies like two elephants fighting for victory. Directly, Sri Hari lifted Chanur's body with both hands and weighed his body weight in the same manner as Brahma weighs the virtuous weight of the virtuous. Then Mahavira Chanur lifted Lord Sriharika with one hand in the same manner as Nagaraja holds the rest of the world on his one hand. Madhava raised Chanur's hands around his neck and waist with the speed of his arms, and suddenly hit him on the ground. Krishna and Chanur on one side and Balarama and Mushti on the other started hitting each other with hands, knees, feet, arms, chests, fingers and fists. The queens sitting near the palace windows whispered to each other as they were moved by the sight of the sweaty faces of Balarama and Krishna. 45-51 | (Mathurukund Chapter 6 to 10)
The women said, "Oh no! This great iniquity is being done in the assembly before the king while he is present. Somewhere they are wrestlers with strong bodies like Vajra and somewhere Sukumar Balaram and Krishna like Phulka. Ahhh! It is unfortunate for us Mathurapuris that we even got to see them after so many days today on the occasion of the war. The great fortune of the forest-dwelling gopas is very much to be thanked, who have been having darshan of Sri Krishna-Balarama with Ras-Rasa. Dear friends! Strangely, no one can say anything while being this evil-minded king. May these two brothers, therefore, soon overcome their enemies by the strength of our virtue. 52-54 |
