The Anecdote of the Sudama Brahmin

Srinaradji says that there was a Brahmin friend of Lord Krishna named Sudama. He lived in his hometown with his wife, Satya. Sudama was well-versed in the Vedas, but he was penniless and extravagant. He made a living through unsanctioned occupation with his favourable wife. One day, Sudamane said to his wife, who was suffering from poverty, "O husband! Dwarkadhish Shrikrishna is my friend, I have studied with him at Sandipani Guru's house; but I did not get to meet him after Shrikrishna became the lord of Bhoja, Vrishni and Andhakon. He is the Lord of the three worlds, the sorrowful and the merciful. " 1 - 4.

Hearing her husband's words, Pativrata Satyane, whose throat was drying up, dressed in worn-out clothes, desperately suffering from hunger, said to her husband, 'Brahman! Why are we wearing torn rags and starving when Shripati Hari is your friend? People go to Dwarka and have darshan of Kamlapati directly and return home wealthy; so go there too. " 5 - 7.

Sudamane said - I teach everyone and today you are teaching me? Oh dear! Are you preaching to get wealth by asking a learned Brahmin? . 8.

Sudamane said, "What Vidhata has written in destiny will happen." Oh no! What does it mean to be known? It is okay to meditate on Sriharika while staying at home. Who will ask a saint like me at the gates where kings, gods, Gandharvas and eunuchs cannot enter without a command? . 11-12 |

Satya said, "It is true that without their command, the gods, the Gandharvas, and the Kinnars cannot go in; but Hari is the Antaryami, he will send his messenger and invite you in." 13 | (Dwarkand Chapter 16 to 22)

The Brahmin said, "Bhamini! Listen to me Lord Krishna is indeed such a compassionate person, but it is not advisable to go to the house of a rich friend in times of calamity. What am I going to ask of those intimate lovers, especially after so many days? Love is when there is no greed, love is not when there is demand. 14-15 |

Satya said - You have to see Krishna, the destroyer of misery and poverty, not ask for it. They will automatically give away a lot of wealth. 153.

Sudamane, after being persuaded by his wife in many ways, pondered this - 'For this purpose, a friend's darshan will be of utmost benefit, but what gift will I give him?' I am ashamed that I have nothing to give because of poverty. " 16-17 | (Dwarkand Chapter 16 to 22)

Hearing this from her husband, Sati Brahmani demanded four handfuls of tandul (chikura) from another house and tied them in an old rag and gave them to her husband. Sudamaji then covered his dirty and weak body with a cloth and slowly walked towards the city of Lord Krishna, remembering Brahmanyadeva with all his heart. 18-20 |

The Brahmin crossed the sea by boat and had a darshan of the golden quaint Dwarkapuri. The flags were waved in that puri. The courtyards and various fortifications were ornate. Balwan Yadav-Vir were protecting him. There were four roads in it. The Brahmin, seeing Shri Krishna's puri, asked the people - what is the building of Shri Krishna? "Hearing this, the protector of Madhavki Dwarkapuri said - 'In all buildings, there is Shri Krishna. Hearing this, the Brahmins entered a building and went inside to see that Lord Krishna was seated on the bed. Seeing them, Sudama attained Brahmananda. Madhava saw Sakha Sudama coming and suddenly got up, tied him around his arm and hugged him with his heart, and they shed tears of joy. He then washed both his feet with a jalaka filled with golden vessels and took the water on his head and made the Brahmin sit on his bed. Then he was worshipped by Gandha, Sandalwood, Aguru, Kumkum, Dhoopa, Deepa, Madhuparka and Pakvannake. Later, Panka begged Godana and asked the skinny, ripe-haired Brahmin, dressed in filthy clothes, why he had come. Mitravindaji smiled and started serving Sudamaji with a fan. All the disciples of Lord Krishna were amazed and laughed and seeing the Brahmin worshipped in this way, they said to each other, 'What penance has this beggar done, so that Trilokyanatha himself is treating him like an elder brother.' Meanwhile, the two friends, holding hands, began talking about the old master's house. 21-31 |

Lord Krishna said, "O Brahman! Listen. We have both studied all the Vidya there together but did not get to meet you after giving Guru-Dakshina. I came to Dwarka because I was scared of germs. Come on! Tell me, where do you live. You may recall, one day, at the behest of our gurus and wives, we students went to a terrible forest to fetch wood. On their way there, the rain and storms caused terrible disasters. The sun went down, and the night was dark. There was water everywhere, the ground was nowhere to be seen. We walked around everywhere in the electric light holding hands. Then, at sunrise, Mahamana Guru Sandipanji went to the forest and gave a vision to the students while they were shivering in the water. Guruji's eyes were filled with tears. He pulled us all out of the water and brought us to the ground and said, 'My children! You are going to keep my commandments to the fullest extent. The most beloved of the creatures is the soul. You gave me primacy by disrespecting her too, so I am giving you rare boons with satisfaction. May all your desires be fulfilled. May the scriptures such as the Vedas and the Puranas rest upon your necks. 'Friend! With this grace of Guruji, we have been filled with happiness ever since. 32-41 |

Sudamaji said - You are Devadeva, the guru of all and the hero of millions of universes. You are the Sripati. It is very ironic that you are staying in a Gurukul. 42.

The king! The Brahmin Sudaman did not give the chukkars to Lord Krishna. They kept sitting with their faces down. The almighty God knew the reason for their coming - 'These Brahmins are not interested in wealth, they worship Me only for liberation. It is their miserable husband and wife who yearn for wealth; but how can I give money to these generous couples? Thinking about it, Mr. Hari knew that 'they have brought me some sparrows, but they are not able to kill me out of shame; so I will ask for it.' Thinking about this, Lord Krishna said, "Friend! What gift have you brought me from home? The gift of love is great even when it is only in atoms. The person who devoutly offers me leaves, flowers, fruits, and water, the substance given by the devotee, I offer it with great reverence. When the Lord said this, Adata took hold of the ribbon of the Sudama Brahmin and took it himself, saying, "What is this?" and said, "All right! This is the dearest thing you have brought me. The Brahman With these tunes, I will be satisfied with the Lord of the Universe. I used to eat such exquisite prawns in Gokul, I used to give them to Yashoda; but after that, till today, I did not even get to see them. 43-52 |

Having said this, Srihari gave all the wealth of the earth to Sudama by chewing on a handful of tadpoles, and after eating another handful, as soon as they agreed to give the wealth of the underworld, the resident of the chest, Lakshmi Devi, took hold of his hand and said at that moment, 'Nath! Why are you abandoning me without a crime? Lord Krishna! All that you have given is enough. From that, these Brahmins will become like Indra. 53-54 | (Dwarkand Chapter 16 to 22)

Here, the Brahmin could not find out anything about this donation. God's grace brought all the wealth to their home. Sudamaji asked for permission to go home by staying there happily for one night, eating and drinking, etc., and saluting Lord Krishna the next day. The Lord gave permission for a greeting and a hug. The Brahmins returned home without asking for anything out of shame, and seeing Shri Krishna's reverence for a Brahmin, they thought to themselves: "Even though I am poor, Shri Krishna embraced me with both his arms. A poor Brahmin like me was given the same respect as a brother by sitting on a pedestal. Rukmini-Satyabhamane served me through Vyajana. May I not forget Ramapati Bhagwan by getting poor wealth so that he does not give me money out of pity. " 55-60 |

This is how he thought, remembering his wife - "I will go home and say - 'Take this, take crores of money. 'Krishna is Brahmanyadeva, the giver, but may mercy be upon you. One should not wish on seeing another person's house full of gems. What is written on the forehead is not the same as what is written otherwise. Sudamaji came to his Puri saying, "Man-hee-mana yon." They were amazed to see Puri. Large gates, golden forts adorned with flags, and palaces stand out. It is adorned with peculiar arches and urns. The city is full of gentlemen and has so many jewels that it is as beautiful as Dwarkapuri II. 61-66 |

The Brahmin said - 'What is this? Whose place is this? "They kept going down the road. The men and women of the city wanted to take them with them; but they did not go. Seeing this, the slaves went to their mistress (Sudama's wife) and told her that Sudama was coming. She was overjoyed and left home with her maids on a shivika to welcome her husband with great respect, Lakshmi Rupa Brahmani. The Sudamas were going around and around. The wife confided in him by showing her face. Sudamaji, adorned with gold and jewels, enriched with grace and form, was very pleased to see his young sister-in-law like the other Lakshmi, a vimanavasini, and understood - 'All this is the grace of Lord Krishna'. 67-71 |

Sudamaji entered his Puri with his wife, adorned with food items, gems, opulence, offerings, utensils, asanas, chandavas, gold vessels, and toranas. Their house had become like the building of Lord Krishna. By the grace of Lord Krishna, Sudama too became young, yet completely detached from the subjects, he began to enjoy the prosperity he had acquired spontaneously. He pondered with his wife the thought of renouncing that wealth through knowledge, renunciation, and devotion, thinking to himself: 'Where did I get such prosperity? This divine and rare property is attributed to Lord Krishna, the Brahmanical God. Even after giving so much wealth, he himself did not say anything to me. With great love, he took hold of the grains of my figs and offered them to me. May I have their companionship and servitude from birth. I will cross the world and the ocean by meditating on their lotus feet. " 72-77 |

Sudama, determined to do so, set his heart on the feet of Lord Krishna with his wife and distributed all the wealth to the Brahmins and went to the abode of God. 78.

A person who listens to this Sri Krishna Charita becomes a devotee of the Supreme Lord, free from poverty. 79. (Dwarkand Chapter 16 to 22)

Nareshwar. This virtuous Dwarka was described to you. Those who always listen to this section receive excellent fame, kula, atishaya bhukti-mukti and rajya. 80.
