The Significance of Prabhas, Saraswati, Bodhpippala and Gomati-Sindhu-Sangam

Shrinaradji says - Mahamate! Woe to you! Listen also to the greatness of Prabhas Tirtha, which is omnipresent, virtuous, and radiant. The king! Daily bathing in Prabhas Kshetra is a hundred times more virtuous than bathing and donating in Godavari when Jupiter is in Leo, Harakshetra (Hardwar) when Jupiter is in Kumbh, Kurukshetra during a solar eclipse, and Kashi during a lunar eclipse. When the curse of Daksha caused a disease called Rajakshema, the Lord of the Nakshatras, where the Moon was immediately freed from the curse by bathing, and his kalas emerged again, is the 'Prabhas Tirtha'. 1 - 4.

The king! In that tirth flows the most virtuous Vashchimavahini Saraswati. By bathing in their waters, even a sinful person becomes a true Brahman. O Lord! On the banks of Saraswati, there is a famous pilgrimage called 'Bodhpippal', where Lord Krishna preached the supreme welfare Bhagavata-Dharma to Udhava. The king! By formally worshipping and shaking the head of the Bodhpippala who touches it and listens to the Brahmasamitta Bhagavata Purana - the half-shloka or quarter-shloka of the Bhagavata while keeping the mind in moderation - the supreme position of Lord Vishnu falls into his hands, i.e., the attainment of the supreme position is assured for him. One who donates the Shrimad Bhagavata Purana with a golden throne on the full moon day of the month of Bhadrapada in Prabhas attains Paramagati. The land-dwelling humans who had nowhere or never heard the Srimad Bhagavata Purana were born in vain. Those who did not listen to the Bhagavata Purana, those who did not worship the Purana-purusha Paramatma, and those who did not offer the best food in the fire in the form of the Bhumi Devas-Brahmins, were born in vain. 5-11 | (Dwarkand Chapter 11 to 15)

Dwarakama is the king of all pilgrimages - the confluence of Gomati and Samudra, in which a person attains the purest Vaikuntha Dham by bathing. Bathing in the Gangasagara-Sangam-Tirtha reaps the rewards of a hundred Ashwamedha Yajnas. A thousand times more virtuousness is accessible by bathing in the Gomti-Sagar-Sangam. It is on this subject that the Puranas narrate this ancient history, by the mere hearing of which a person becomes free from sinful penance. 12-14 |

In the past, Hastinapur was inhabited by a noble Vaishya named Highwaypati. He was a great magnate and a treasure like Kubera. Later, he came to be associated with Vaishya prostitutes. He was considered very shrewd in the company of the Vitas (cunning and lascivious). He had a great passion for gambling. He was obsessed with greed, seduction, and alcohol. That great Vaishya was always lying and indulging in mischief. He never donated money to the cause of Brahmins, ancestors and gods. If he saw God's story being told from a distance, he would scream and get away faster. He never served his parents and never gave money to his sons. He was so stupid and mean that even though he was rich, he left his wife and lived separately from her. Living in the company of prostitutes destroyed half his wealth, half were stolen by thieves, and whatever little was left of the earth was automatically absorbed there; for with virtue Lakshmi grows, and with sin she is surely destroyed. 15-20 |

Thus, the great Vaishya, who had become addicted to prostitutes, became poor and began to work as a thief in the very beautiful city of Hastinapur. King Shantanu ruled there in those days. They tied the thief with ropes and drove him out of his country. While in the forest, he began to commit animal violence. It did not rain there for many years in those days. Then the Vaishya, suffering from famine, turned to the west. There, in a forest, a lion killed him with its claws. At the same time, the Yamadutas came and bound him in chains, hung him face down, and led him on the way to Yamlok, beating him with whips. Then a great dragon flew up into the sky with the flesh of his hand, and immediately devoured it with his beak. Other birds that did not get meat eagerly began to eat meat for themselves as well. In this way, birds such as eagles began to make a great noise there; yet the eagle did not let go of the flesh with its mouth. He kept flying and kept going in the west direction. There he was struck in the face by another gland as powerful as his own with his sharp beak. Then the flesh fell from his mouth into the Gomti-Sagar-Sangam. As soon as his flesh was immersed in that tirtha, he broke the chains of the great Vaishya Yamadutas and became a deity with four arms and ascended the divine plane, illuminating the directions of the messengers and went to the supreme abode of Sriharika. 21-31 | (Dwarkand Chapter 11 to 15)

A person who hears this greatness of the confluence of the Gomati Samudra goes to the world of Lord Vishnu, free from all sins. 32.

Thus was completed the thirteenth chapter in the Narada Bahulashva-Samvad under the Dwarka Khanda in the Srigarghasamhita, titled 'The Mahatmya of Prabhas, Saraswati, Bodhpippala and Gomati-Sindhu-Sangam'. 13.
