Gopis as Goddesses
Shrinaradji says - Mithileshwar! Now listen to the description of the Gopis in the form of Devanganas, who are the best instruments that give the four substances to humans and increase their devotion. 1.
There was a Gopa in Malavadesh, whose name was Dipti Nanda. He had a thousand wives. He was a man of great wealth and ethics. At one point, he came to Mathura on a pilgrimage. There he heard the name of Vrajadhishwara Nandaraja and went to Gokul to meet him. There, after meeting the Nanda king and seeing the splendor of Vrindavan, Mahamana Diwapati started living there by the order of the Nanda king. He built a cowshed encircling two yojana lands. The king! Living with his family and relatives on that day brought great joy to the day. By the command of Deval Muni, all the Devangas became Mahadivya girls of the same day and night, radiant like a burning fire. 2 - 6.
At some point, all the girls were fascinated by the sight of Lord Krishna, Shyamsundar, and they fasted in the month of Magha to attain Damodar. Every day at half sunrise, they would go to the Yamuna to take a bath and sing hymns of Lord Krishna, filled with love and joy. Lord Krishna was pleased with him and said - 'You ask for a boon. 'Then he bowed to the Almighty with both hands joined together and said to him slowly. 7 - 9.
The Gopis said, "O Lord! Surely you are rare even to yogis. There are also causes for everyone's God and causes. You are the bearer of the lineage. Your body is also the enchantress of Manmath. Mayst thou ever be before our eyes. 10.
The king! Then may the Adi Deva Sri Hari, who, by saying 'Tathastu, "opened the doors of his darshan to the Gopis, always reside in your heart, in the eye path, and be immediately present in the mind from the calling. I sing hymns to those who have placed Pitambar Dam around their waist, adorned with a peacock feather crown on their heads and their necks bent, with flutes and anklets in their hands and jewelled kundals twinkling in their ears. Adideva Srihari is subject only to devotion. Surely in this the Gopis are always attested, who never contemplated Sankhya nor the rituals of yoga; it was only through love that they attained the form of God. 11-14 |
Thus was completed the thirteenth chapter, the 'Upakhyan of the Gopis as Devanagana', in the Narada Bahulashka Samvad under the Madhuryakanda in the Srigarghasamhita. 13.
