Harivaṃśa Appendix I

Vulgate passages preserved alongside the critical edition

When P. L. Vaidya prepared the critical edition of the Harivaṃśa for BORI in 1969, he set aside the passages that manuscript witnesses had added to the text over centuries. These passages, collected here as Appendix I, are the voice of the vulgate. They are what traditional devotees read, what Gita Press prints, and what many commentators have studied. The critical text is leaner; the vulgate is fuller. Both are Harivaṃśa.
