Having of old, at the beginning of creation, brought forth the creatures, the three classes, together with sacrifice, Prajāpati, the creator of creatures, said: by this sacrifice may you bring forth increase, a 'prasava' being a bringing-forth, a growth, an arising; make that increase. Let this sacrifice be for you the cow that yields what you wish, yielding the desired ends, the particular fruits you long for. How?

By revealed texts such as 'the lord of the universe, the ruler of the self', the word 'Prajapati', taken without limiting adjunct, denotes the Lord of all, the maker of the universe, the Self of the universe, the highest goal, Narayana. Of old, at the time of creation, that Blessed Prajapati, looking upon his creatures, who, helpless under the beginningless contact with insentient matter, had their distinctions of name and form withdrawn, lay merged in him, were unfit for any human goal, and were all but insentient, in supreme compassion, wishing to revive them, created them together with sacrifice, for the bringing about of the sacrifice that is his own worship, and said: by this sacrifice may you bring forth, make growth for yourselves. Let this sacrifice be for you the fulfiller of the desire called liberation, the highest human goal, and of the desires that conduce to it. How?
