"Behind the veil of Your līlā I behold two realities at once, O Lord." Swinging between the unequaled majesty and sweetness of the prince of Vraja, Brahmā cried, "On one side You are the cause of every cause. Yet at the same time You have taken birth in Vraja, in Vrajendra's home, as the Nīlasundara son of the king and queen of Vraja. You are free from every transformation and are the form of eternity, consciousness, and bliss. Yet here in Vraja, overcome by the pain of hunger, You have wept and begged Your mother for fresh butter. Not even the scent of the material world's faults exists within You, for You are supremely pure. Yet You enter the homes of Vraja's beautiful women and steal butter. Though delighting within Your own Self, You cannot restrain Your eagerness to devise ever-new amusements with these cowherd boys.
"Thus, on one side You wholly transcend the material manifestation and possess not the slightest relationship with worldly states. Yet at the same time You take birth, and Your limbs visibly grow with the succession of days, nights, fortnights, months, and years. The celestial Gaṅgā of Your līlā flows mingled with currents of hunger, childish restlessness, and countless other earthly moods. You continually expand Your pastimes in accord with all the conditions of the world. This is because Your heart contains limitless mercy for Your own people. You create all this only to grant boundless and infinite joy to Your surrendered devotees, who rely solely upon Your lotus feet and eternally dwell beneath their cooling shade. To increase their happiness forever, You who are entirely beyond the material world descend upon the earth and extend worldly conduct as Your līlā."

"Yet my effort to reason about this has no real meaning, O Lord." Afraid to offer any definitive conclusion regarding the inconceivable greatness of the prince of Vraja, Brahmā continued, "Your nature, majesty, sweetness, and līlā are all inconceivable and beyond reason. No one can know anything about You through mind or intelligence. If some people claim to know You and pride themselves on understanding the truth of Bhagavān, let them continue. What benefit lies in saying much about them and displaying their folly? There is no need to extend the discussion. I can speak only about myself, and that is enough. Though I am the first promulgator of the four Vedas, neither I, my mind, my speech, nor my body possesses power by which Your glory may be known. My mind is unfit even to touch a tiny drop from the ocean of Your inconceivable opulence. Although I directly behold You, You remain beyond my eyes and other senses. My speech can never truly describe You, the infinite Lord."

Through the influence of his long praise, the special mercy of the prince of Vraja now surged over the creator. His pride in creating and ruling the universe had already dissolved, and this flood of grace washed away even its traces. Supreme humility became permanently established within him, while the pure identity of being Vrajendra's son's eternal servant awakened. All his conceptions changed. Nothing more needed to be said or requested. A servant should return to his place only with the master's permission and in complete surrender and dependence. Following this conduct, Brahmā said, "Śrī Kṛṣṇacandra, my master, please command me now. I shall return to my station only to perform the service You have entrusted to me. Nothing more needs to be said, for You witness all and already know everything. This entire visible universe rests within You. You alone are Lord of the worlds and my master. Everything I once regarded as mine or as myself, my universe and this body, I offer to You, my supreme object of worship. Your own things are offered back to You. From now onward, You will arrange the very best for this servant according to my strength, capacity, and authority."

At last Brahmā's great hymn was enclosed within obeisance to Śrī Kṛṣṇa. It had begun with worship of Vrajendra's son's feet and now ended with prostration at those same lotus feet. Though feeling no need to say anything more, Brahmā offered his obeisance and, saturated with a servant's humility, added, "Śrī Kṛṣṇacandra, Nīlasundara, whose incomparable beauty attracts every heart, may my mind and life remain forever drawn into this ocean of dark beauty. As the lotus of the Yadu dynasty blossoms through Your appearance and You are the sun that opens the lotus of the Vṛṣṇi clan, may I, Your lotus-born offspring, continually blossom beneath Your merciful glance. Through Your advent, the ocean formed of the earth, gods, brāhmaṇas, and cows has surged, and You have granted them unprecedented prosperity. You have become the moon that increases them. Therefore, may I, lowest among the gods, also be forever nourished by You, moon of Nanda's dynasty.
"You are sun and moon, destroying the dense darkness of the night of false religion. May my heart remain forever illumined by the pure rays of the sun that is Your right eye, and may every particle of my being shine with the white moonlight of Your left eye, so that I never again become confused or conceive of spreading illusion over my master. You crush the demons born as a burden upon the earth, and Your radiance is as irresistible as the sun. Yet even those who oppose You receive Your rare destination. How much compassion fills Your punishment. May that radiance always overwhelm me and Your grace-filled discipline govern me forever. O supremely glorious Lord, You are the highest object of worship for everyone, including the greatest and the brilliant gods such as sun and moon. All continually worship You. May You accept my worship as well. Until the final moment of my life, until the end of the great cosmic age, may You accept my countless obeisances at Your lotus feet."

Brahmā's hymn came to an end, and all eight eyes fixed upon the moonlike face of the prince of Vraja. That face always holds supreme assurance for anyone who raises distressed eyes toward it. Who from beginningless time until today has ever met disappointment from Nīlasundara's lovely divine eyes? The creator's life became cool and peaceful. Yet he also received the signal that he should leave at once. Overcome by unprecedented surging devotion, he circumambulated Śrī Kṛṣṇacandra three times, bowed his head at His lotus feet, and thought tenderly, "If only one or two words might issue from the Lord's lotus mouth for me, my power of hearing would be fulfilled forever."
The prince of Vraja honors even the faintest wish of servants connected to Him in name alone. Four-faced Brahmā had surrendered everything and stood at His feet, so it was impossible that this desire should return unfulfilled. Śrī Kṛṣṇacandra's infinite majesty glanced through His childhood mood and created an ocean of nectar in the creator's ears. Brahmā's eyes remained fixed upon the trembling smile on His crimson lips as nectar-flowing speech filled his hearing. The prince of Vraja said:

Brahmā received another sign of the prince of Vraja's limitless grace, one he had not noticed while standing before Him. As he left the Lord's feet, circumambulated Vṛndāvana and Vraja, and proceeded toward Satyaloka, he saw that Nīlasundara had placed upon his chest the forest garland that had adorned the Lord's own breast:
"Having offered praise, Brahmā departed, and Hari gave him the garland upon His chest."
Who can describe the creator's condition upon seeing that garland? Even the shadow of consciousness remaining in his body seemed ready to return and merge into a particle of Vraja's dust. Yet the work of creation had to continue, so the inconceivable great power of Vrajarāja's son produced timely steadiness within him and restored him to composure. Still, every particle of his being cried:
"Blessed are the calves and boys through whom I received this vision. Blessed is my heart, for Kṛṣṇa placed His garland upon it. Blessed is Yaśomatī, who bound the imperishable Lord in love. Blessed are the gopīs in whose homes Murāri eats butter. Blessed are the gopīs and cowherds and all who dwell in Vraja. Blessed are Yaśodā and Nanda, who brought the imperishable Lord under the control of devotion. Yogīs wander in worship, meditating upon Him, yet He wanders among Vraja's residents, increasing their love."

Meanwhile, Śrī Kṛṣṇacandra again submerged the covering of His infinite majesty, just as before, within the waves of the ocean of childhood absorption and resumed His free play, bathing in those waves. Expectation for the calves appeared in His curved lotus eyes. Just as drops of perspiration had adorned His beautiful forehead and smooth cheeks while He searched for them one year earlier, Śrī Kṛṣṇacandra's moonlike face now shone with the same beauty.
Yet the scene had changed, and another act had to appear. He immediately looked toward the pure, grass-covered ground directly before Him and at once saw, "Ah! Here is the multitude of calves! Tasting tender new blades of grass, My calves roam in supreme delight and such happiness!"

There was nothing astonishing in the calves that Brahmā had removed and placed in a secluded mountain cave suddenly appearing there. It is enough to know that as Brahmā withdrew from the stage, Yogamāyā, the inconceivable great power of Vrajendra's son Śrī Kṛṣṇacandra, placed those countless calves upon the soft grassy ground and withdrew her shadow from them. The herd then roamed exactly as before, established in the posture and nature it had possessed at that very moment one year earlier.
The countless cowherd boys were likewise seated again upon the bank of the sun-god's daughter. Awakening from their ecstatic absorption, their eyes filled with Kanhaiyā Bhaiyā just as before, and they saw exactly as they had: "Look! Kannū is there, between those tamāla trees!" Every smallest part of the riverbank was restored to its former adornment. Horns, flutes, canes, lunch slings, vessels made from lotus leaves and petals, and even the fruit peels removed and thrown far away all appeared unchanged in their proper places.

Once again the entire forest resounded with Śrī Kṛṣṇacandra's exceedingly sweet flute song. Its vibration entered the ears of the countless grazing calves. The flute sounded specifically to call and gather them. Fully familiar with the signals of their eternal keeper, they did not delay even a moment. Casting the half-chewed grass from their mouths, every calf came to Śrī Kṛṣṇacandra and surrounded Him. Vrajendra's son then led them to the bank of Yamunā where, one year earlier, He had been absorbed in the supreme bliss of the forest meal with His friends:

English translation
A full year had passed by human time before the cowherd boys met Śrī Kṛṣṇacandra, the foundation of their lives and entire treasure of their existence. Yet they experienced only that before even half a moment had passed, Kanhaiyā Bhaiyā returned with the calves. They sensed not even the fragrance of a year-long separation because Yogamāyā's boundless power covered that portion of their knowledge and closed the doorway even to such a supposition. She passed her brush over every inevitable effect of time. The boys' food, sweet cakes, vegetables, and preparations had not become stale but remained entirely unchanged. The leaf-and-flower vessels retained their luster, and even the half-chewed morsels in their mouths kept the same taste. No mark remained from which they could infer the separation.
There is no cause for wonder. A material mind may remain forever incapable of tracing Yogamāyā's endless power to make the impossible possible or touching a particle of that spiritual majesty, but it is familiar with the effect of Śrī Kṛṣṇacandra's external Māyā of the three guṇas. What do beings bewildered by her not forget? Because of beginningless outwardness, all beings are deluded by that Māyā and forget their own spiritual identity. They experience the body as "I" and children, spouse, relatives, and possessions as "mine," and therefore continually suffer all the pain of material existence.
Countless scriptures shed light to dispel the darkness of the soul's beginningless night of ignorance. Innumerable teachers and saints come to awaken it, yet its night of delusion does not end. It does not awaken, open its eyes, or know itself even after hearing great enlightenment. Such is the power of Śrī Kṛṣṇacandra's external Māyā. Who then can describe the wondrous great enchantment of Yogamāyā, His internal potency? By her power, the cowherd boys did not experience separation from Kṛṣṇa, and one year appeared as only half a moment:

Although a full year passed while they were separated from beautiful Mohanalāla, they considered it half a moment. Such was the Lord's astonishing Māyā.

Yet even that half moment was enough to quiet all their joyful exuberance. That Kannū Bhaiyā should leave them in the middle of eating was no ordinary event. Though their unblinking eyes seemed continuously fixed upon Him, the current of delight in the riverbank meal had stopped. As soon as Śrī Kṛṣṇacandra approached, a wave like lightning raced through every boy's veins. Their longing and loving haste to welcome Nīlasundara, and the river of joy streaming from every pore, swept even Śrī Kṛṣṇacandra into its current.
All the boys rose at once. One took His tender hand, another placed his arms around His neck, with fists still closed around food, and hung from Kanhaiyā Bhaiyā's neck. Others seized different parts of His yellow cloth. Before a moment ended, countless boys pressed themselves to their friend's limbs, all receiving His touch and satisfying their first longing. Śrī Kṛṣṇacandra stood among them drinking the incomparable nectar of friendship, while the forest swayed with their tumultuous joy. Moving and unmoving beings alike thrilled with life.
Before the force of reunion subsided, older boys cried, "Kannū, you have come! We did not expect You to return so quickly with the calves." Toka said sweetly, "That is why I agreed. I knew Kanhaiyā Bhaiyā would play His flute, the calves behind the trees would run out, and then we would eat with Him." All cried, "Brother, come! Without You we could not place one morsel in our mouths. You too have eaten nothing and returned with the same morsel in Your hand. Sit and eat without delay."

The sun had descended in the western sky. Upon the bank of the daughter of Mount Kalinda, Śrī Kṛṣṇacandra sat in His former place surrounded by friends and resumed eating. Filled with supreme bliss, the boys placed favorite foods upon His hand and in His mouth exactly as before. Relishing and praising their gifts, He ate with laughter and placed His own preferred foods upon their lips, overflowing with happiness:

Meanwhile in Satyaloka, Brahmā's state remained extraordinary. Though seated on Brahmā's throne, Tapoloka, Janaloka, Maharloka, Svargaloka, and Bhuvarloka no longer intervened before him, and he directly beheld the prince of Vraja's meal. His composure again weakened and a cry of rasa rose within him: "Ah! If only I had a crow's body. Then my fortune would know no limit. With my beak I would gather these scattered grains of yogurt-mixed rice moistened by the nectar of the prince of Vraja's lips. Filling my belly with this spotless, divinely radiant remnants-prasāda, I would be fulfilled."
"The grains that fell were filled with the savor of yogurt, and Brahmā returned home with an intense longing for them. Had he become a crow, he would have strutted about, picking up and eating those beautiful remnants one by one."
