I am the strength, the vigour, of the strong; and that strength is free of desire and passion. Desire is craving for objects not yet near at hand; passion is the colouring, the relish, in objects already attained. Free of these two, the strength which serves merely to uphold the body and the like, that pure strength I am, not the strength which for those in transmigration is the cause of craving and passion. Further, I am the desire which is not opposed to dharma, not opposed to the meaning of scripture, found in living beings: such desire as is for the mere upholding of the body, the desire for food, drink and the like, that desire I am, O bull of the Bharatas.
