English Translation

Do not place the burden of worldly life on anything but yourself. The path of devotion is such: one must be ready to give up everything. A beggar who runs a business and makes a donkey work for him, yet dwells in the marketplace and calls himself a renunciant, what is the point? Mixing water into the ghee that was meant as sacred offering, he dilutes its worth. Says Tuka, be either a true devotee or an honest laborer; do not pretend.
