English Translation
Why have you become the donkey of this worldly life, O man, carrying mountains of sorrow? The sweetness of fine food lasts only on the tip of the tongue. Once the stomach is full, there is no more taste. So too with the pleasures of the other senses: nothing real remains close at hand. The eye's hunger to see beauty is never satisfied, no matter how long you gaze. Desire breeds ever more desire. Says Tuka, why, for the sake of what is perishable, do you break your bond with God?
