—the virtues and marks of the Beloved, the abode of bliss.’ The monkey bowed his head, stated his lineage, and asked lovingly, ‘What blessed fortune! Tell me the delightful signs of his virtues.’ Together with the Treasury of Beauty there appeared the dark-complexioned Lord, whose splendour equals ten million Loves. (1) Rāma's eyes are lotus petals and, says Rasarangamaṇi, his spotless face resembles the full moon. His shoulders are bull-like, his neck conch-shaped, his chest exceedingly broad, and his beautiful arms reach long; he bears bow and arrows. He protects the multitude of living beings and his own people, and is the great guardian of each person's work and duty. He always observes and causes others to observe public propriety and policy, and is the ultimate protector of people of all four social orders. (2) Radiant as the sun and ornament of the solar race, he is dear as the moon and a treasury of affection. Sweet-spoken and truthful, he is like Bṛhaspati; heroic, glorious, and valiant, he resembles Viṣṇu. King of all worlds, generous as Kubera, steady and a great chariot-warrior, he is skilled in every weapon. All the worlds live under the shelter of Rāma's arms, and Rasarangamaṇi sings his fame. (3) He is supremely intelligent, virtuous, powerful, skilled in royal policy, and possessed of great knowledge. He is a humble, consummately wise knower of the Vedas and their limbs, sacrifice, and the science of the bow. Benefactor of saints and promoter of good action, he is always worthy of a brahmin's worship and himself their exemplary worshipper. Rāghavendra is an ocean of divine qualities and, says Rasarangamaṇi, a treasury of glory greater even than Indra's. (4) Rāma's form, wrists, and chest are firm; the testicles and brows are long and lovely. The tips of the hair and the testicles are known as three equal features; the navel-region, belly, and chest are high and delightful. The sole-lines, tip of the penis, and hair are three smooth features; his hands, feet, nails, and eyes are red and beautiful. (◇) tip of the topknot and testicles; (§) the testicles themselves; (‡) the tip of the penis. Three—
