Fresh English translation

In the mottled, dusty cow of speech, saints and non-saints will drink the milk of Rāma's rasa and glory and shake their heads. Just as one may bathe in salt water, discerning good people will nevertheless value the nectar-drink of the Lord's feet. Like a pearl found in some unworthy vessel, graceful poets—swanlike selectors—will recognize and choose Rāma's virtues. Saints will hear even the harsh objections to a garland of poems about Rāma's name as they would a father's words. (142) The guru gave refuge in Sītā-Rāma and bestowed the sovereign mantra; the mood of friendship with Rāma is a treasury of bliss. Gaining the company of saints and opportunities to dwell in the holy abode, I repeated the Name until love for Rāma's form shone forth. Through Tulsī Gosāī's grace, many poems that arose at different times were gathered together here in hope of devotion to Rāma. May good people listen, making their minds fish in the glory of Sītā-Rāma; this complete Śrī Rāma-rasa-raṅga-vilāsa is fulfilled. (143) Thus is completed the Vilāsa of the rasa-coloured glory of Śrī Rāmacandra: illustrious emperor of emperors, Lord of all, ruler and refuge of every world; ornament of the solar race and crest-jewel of Raghu's line; served by Śiva, Śuka, Sanaka, Nārada and the others; sovereign of glorious Sāketa; ornament of the eternally liberated circle of Bharata, Lakṣmaṇa, Śatrughna, Hanumān and the others; bearer of bow and arrow and companion of Śrī Sītā. May it be offered to Śrī Rāma. The writing was completed on Wednesday, the full moon of the intercalary Śrāvaṇa in Vikrama year 1958. It was inscribed by Rāmarasaraṅgamaṇi in the pleasure grove on the bank of Sarayū in Śrī Ayodhyā. Again and again, with the love of speech, body, and mind, I bow to Śrī Rāma, to devotion to Rāma, to Rāma's devotees, and to the gurus. (1) Homage to Śrī Hanumān. Now begin the marks of Śrī Rāma as the Great Person. I bow to the lovely daughter of Videha, the Son of the Wind, and Vālmīki, by whom the beautiful marks of Rāma's limbs were heard and spoken. The daughter of Videha said, ‘If he is truly Rāma's messenger, let him tell—’
