The prayer to Hanumān continues from the preceding page. Rasaraṅgamaṇi asks the famous, steadfast protector—intoxicated by love for Rāma’s name—to drive corruption from the servant’s life and to become his powerful refuge. Raghunātha is Lord of yogins, of those who enjoy happiness, and of those who renounce enjoyment; the praise of his virtues cures disease. He is Lord of the wise and steadfast meditators, of the four modes of speech, and the crown of generous heroes. He is Lord of the Vedas, companion of those who expound them, and Lord of the gods. He is Lord of Śiva and Brahmā, of Ayodhyā and the moving and unmoving universe, Lord of the soul and of Jānakī—and he is my own Lord. I sacrifice every world-abode to Ayodhyā, the abode of nectar, and every name to the nectar-stream of Rāma’s name. I sacrifice every divine play to the play of Sītā-Rāma and every sovereignty to Rāma’s boundless lordship. I sacrifice millions of Love-gods to Rāma’s limbs, my very life to his loving, gracious character, the splendour of the formless Absolute to his bodily radiance, and all ten avatāras to Daśaratha’s son. I sacrifice a hundred million heavenly realms to Rāma’s delight, the discus to his bow, arrows, and sword, and every pleasure-garden to his repose. I sacrifice Gaṅgā, Yamunā, and every river to Sarayū’s current; all patience to Rāma’s forbearance; millions of wish-fulfilling trees to his generous lotus-hand; millions of Ratis and Lakṣmīs to Rāma’s queen; and millions of lords of Lakṣmī to the prince of Kosala. The Eight Verses on Rāma’s Name begin. Everyone knows that Rāma is an ocean of mercy and that his name carries the world across. Gaṇeśa understood the name’s power: seeing the earth marked by his mouse’s feet, while six-faced Skanda rode the peacock, he simply circumambulated his generous father and, through the name’s grace, gained worship before his father.
