—homage to Rāma as guru. Homage to wise Hanumān, Śrī Rāma’s messenger and the Wind-god’s son, complete in both knowledge and realized understanding. Again and again I bow to the dust of the guru’s feet. It is a dwelling of auspiciousness like lotus pollen, spotless love, the turban of devotion, and bridal good fortune. Worn as a forehead mark, it brings every virtue under one’s sway; placed in the eyes, it reveals the essential form of Sītā-Rāma. Far beyond wish-fulfilling jewel, philosopher’s stone, desire-tree, or wish-cow, I offer myself without limit to every particle of that dust. Rasarangamaṇi, of meagre fortune, bows again and again to the dust of the guru’s feet, which bestows blessed fortune. The ocean of grace who is my crown is Gurudeva—bestower of friendship with Sītā-Rāghavendra, victory to Śrī Kāmendra, a wish-fulfilling tree, a deliverer who makes all work right. Watering one as low as me with the pure water of loving devotion, he proclaimed the sovereign mantra of the Divine Couple. He disclosed the nature of self and Supreme, removed defilement, and gave me a taste of the sweetness of both sovereigns’ play. As a bee transforms a grub, good company transformed me: Gurudeva, ocean of grace, is my crown. Giving instruction, he removes misfortune from life with the reviving herb of true knowledge. He speaks the seed-mantra and reveals Rāma and Sītā, the supreme Beloved of the sakhīs. Making the pauper Rasarangamaṇi rich, he gives him the sweet supreme nectar of love to drink. What more can be said of his greatness? The guru is weightier even than Govinda. Victory to Śrī Rāmānuja Svāmī, who bears the garb of belonging to Śrī Rāma as servant to master, venerable teacher who enlarged the ocean of the tradition. He expounded Brahman qualified by soul, Lord, māyā, sentient and insentient being, and taught the eight-, twelve-, and six-syllabled sacred mantras. He taught the relation of servant and served, the longing to offer service as one who exists for the Lord’s enjoyment: ‘Sītā-Rāma are my refuge; I am the Lord’s portion for as long as life remains.’ With the Rāmāyaṇa as foundation, Rasarangamaṇi’s garland—
