—has already been given. Yet although śṛṅgāra is composite, it is stronger than all the rasas—supremely powerful—because within it are love in intense, still more intense, and most intense forms, attachment, divine love, and bliss. Such degrees are not seen in the other rasas; therefore it is the strongest. The author also teaches that in direct contemplative realization one attains the divine auspicious form. ‘The Lord, whose nature is supreme bliss, is indeed present in the mind and fully assumes the rasa of that form.’ (10) In contemplation the Lord himself, whose nature is supreme bliss, certainly appears with form within the mind—that is, within the inner faculty—and the permanent emotion becomes filled with the highest bliss. The supremacy of śṛṅgāra-rasa may also be seen in the Śrīmad Bhāgavata. Śrī Uddhava was a very great knower and devotee, yet he prayed to the Lord that it would be wonderful if he might become a creeper, plant, or herb in Śrī Vṛndāvana, so that the dust of the gopīs' blessed feet would continually fall upon him. ‘Ah, may I become some shrub, creeper, or herb in Vṛndāvana, serving the dust of their feet.’ Meaning: Ah, how wonderful it would be if I became some creeper, herb, or other plant in Vṛndāvana that received the dust of these daughters of Vraja. In that state the dust of their blessed feet would continually fall upon me.
