Fresh English translation

Even devotion may involve much delay; how can a restless mind sleep in peace? It is called easy but proves difficult when understood, for devotion’s true nature is rare. Yugalānanya Śaraṇa says that refuge is natural and in every way an incomparable wisdom. Now I describe joy-giving surrender for the sake of direct understanding. The moment it is performed, one meets the Abode of grace. It is highly accessible, auspicious, stainless, naturally generous in effect, perfected in its very nature as a means, and beyond the storehouse of all faults. Excellent knowledge arises when one receives the compassion-filled true guru; without Yugalānanya’s illumination the restless mind is not restrained. The crown of saints continually approves surrender as the wish-fulfilling gem of refuge. It eternally pervades truthfulness and every other virtue, appearing in limitless forms according to fitness. It remains continually present within action, knowledge, and devotion. Good people preserve it, and nowhere is there another boat across darkness. It gives fruit to the capable and incapable alike, splendidly without delay. This joy-giving lady named Surrender is dear to the ornament of Raghu’s line. One-flavoured and conforming to his own nature, she holds every other means under her control. Without her, none among the many methods truly bestows fruit. Her course is profoundly secret; only a rare, steadfast intelligence knows it. Surrender is again of two distinct kinds: anguished and contented. Attend now to the first, the auspicious, joy-giving anguished form. Through the causeless compassion of Sītā’s Beloved one receives his rare gracious glance.
