Until one knows one’s ever-new Lord, his Abode, and his Lady, the grime produced by past action is exceedingly difficult to recognize. Attachment to the material body remains in the heart until the low mind contemplates the lovely forms of the beloved retinue. The soul continues to find worldly sound delightful until it hears the stainless music of the residents of the Abode, a treasury of supreme loving rasa. Awaken all the faculties in this way: hear the revered true guru’s excellent words and burn the roots of possessiveness. I have described one general course of the meeting. Another is wondrous, filled with secret meaning, intensely hidden, and beyond the destitute mind. Know it to be exceedingly difficult without the compassion of rasika devotees, yet Yugalānanya Śaraṇa says it becomes easily joy-giving when joined to love. Its limit cannot be spoken: it is a wondrous and holy realm of love. Generous saints understand it when intoxicated like bees at the lotus feet. Hearing of this faithful love causes pain to the unfaithful; even the Veda does not perceive its secret, but shakes its foolish head again and again. I have described the liberated soul according to the measure of my understanding: through the grace of Sītā’s Lord and the true guru it gains love for the supreme station. It is astonishing to forget the first condition, bondage, for worldly desires and their train of alien splendours keep drawing one back. Know the rasika seeker of liberation to be exceedingly rare; isolated liberation is still more difficult and attained only with hardship. The great state of liberation is rare and depends upon Sītā’s Lord’s grace. Yugalānanya Śaraṇa has spoken of it; now I shall tell of the state that is wholly different.
