Fresh English translation
In many ways the attendants please the traveller and fill the heart with an ocean of love. Their joyful arrival gladdens that soul, and flower garlands rain down at every moment. Passing from world to world in this fashion, love becomes playful delight, yet the mind rests nowhere even briefly, for it has recognized the sense-world as a primal deceiver. Crossing the worlds of the gods, its longing to behold the beautiful vision increases fourfold: ‘When will my two eyes become fruitful by seeing the face of the treasure of bliss together with Sītā?’ Piercing the sphere of māyā, no small love remains in the heart for the meeting. The mind rejoices at the many wonders seen along the road and, drawing near the Abode, at the play filled with the retinue. At the Virajā waters a divine, more-than-human lotus hand touches the soul; it casts off the subtle body together with its desires and deep qualities. There the covering of the material body is fully destroyed, and a body made of supreme bliss arises as the dwelling of pure love. Receiving that supremely incomparable and stainless body, divinely ornamented and joy-giving, the soul is adorned with countless ornaments and pleased in every way. The eternally liberated attendants meet it and lead it into the joy of eternal service. Within a jeweled pavilion stands a divine assembly hall supported by a thousand pillars. There shines a pure dais, and upon it a splendid throne. On that throne, suffused with fair and dark colour, the accomplished Couple reign with their retinue. Every stainless limb is beheld, and at last the soul meets the joy-giving Lord and Lady. The Lord of lords then grants that soul excellent service suited to its devotional feeling. Like a fish absorbed in the deep ocean, it gains a joy beyond all power of description. Whatever world a soul loves firmly, into that very realm it necessarily travels after leaving the dark dwelling of material nature. The holy books describe the path beginning with light; keep your heart purified always, for forgetfulness is error.
