Krishna said, 'Who brought the ball to this place? I have come to fulfill his wish.' Hearing His fearless words, terror filled her mind. Her heart, which had been drawn to God, now turned back in alarm toward her husband. Her mind rushed back to her husband's side: 'Some calamity has come upon us.' Above, the water stretches without end, a bottomless ocean brimming full. 'By what path did He come here? He appeared suddenly, out of nowhere.' 'He looks small, but His words are mighty.' He spoke boldly and without fear. He woke the Kaliya serpent from sleep. The serpent rose in billowing coils of venom. The waters of the Yamuna boiled and overflowed, with Death-like fury roaring. The purpose for which Narayana had come was fulfilled: the two faced each other. Words were exchanged between them, leading to the confrontation of battle. Kaliya, brooding and enraged, snarled, 'I will swallow you whole.' He lunged, but Hari struck him with His fists. Then Kaliya saw death before his eyes, as though his very life was being torn away. Kaliya summoned his kin. Hordes of serpents gathered from every side. They coiled around Hari and saturated Him with their venom. Says Tuka, against those without devotion, Krishna summoned the thought of Garuda.
