English Translation

God does not reveal the purpose until the deed is done. He brings everything to experience directly. He reached for the ball but His arm fell short. 'Watch out, friends,' He called, 'take care.' He said, 'Think carefully before you act.' Narayana said, 'All right, very well.' Saying 'very well,' He looked toward them. The ball was freed and fell. Along with it, the Infinite One leaped into the pool. The cowherds came home weeping. The people saw their distress and rushed forward. Each parent asked their own child for news. In their grief for Hari, the children could not speak. They said Hari had drowned, and they beat their chests and heads. Says Tuka, the grief of the parents who could not find their children was beyond any comparison. No one knew what had really happened. People said, 'God was with you.' 'When God is with you, such sorrow does not come. Something different has happened today.' 'Today Hari seems to have parted from them; that is why this has happened.' Only when told could they understand. The wiser ones among them grasped it. The one who understood calmed the others. He had always been the thoughtful one. 'Hari is no longer with us,' he told them. 'He drowned in the pool of the Yamuna.' There was no time for further questions. The situation with Ananta was beyond remedy. Says Tuka, the grief of those mothers and people was indescribable.
