English Translation

Without reflection, one cannot attain peace. The body is a structure of the three gunas, yet the Self within is free of all qualities. For the love of God, offer to God whatever comes to pass. Says Tuka, this is the finest and most fitting practice.

We ask forgiveness for any inaccuracies in rendering Tukaram ji’s original Marathi.

In Plain Words

Without reflection you cannot find peace. The body is a knot of the three gunas. Inside it the Self has no quality at all. For the love of God, give to God whatever happens. Tuka says: this is good, this is the most fitting thing of all.

What it means

Tukaram joins clear seeing to total surrender. First he says peace will not come without reflection, and the reflection he means is this: the body is woven of the three gunas, while the Self within carries no quality and is untouched by them. Once you see that, the right response is to hand everything that happens, pleasant or painful, back to God as an offering made for love of Him. He calls this the finest and most fitting practice, better than any anxious effort to manage life yourself. Knowing what you are and giving the rest away are one movement.
