English Translation

I will bow to all beings, to everything that exists. At every step I will see You, O Narayana. Having strained out all sense of difference, I take the Vedas as my authority in this. Says Tuka, then there is no question of any second or other association.

I will bow to all beings now, to every one of them. At every step I will hold You in mind, Narayana. I strain out all difference; the Veda itself is my warrant for this. Tuka says: then there is no question of leaning on any second thing.

What it means

Tukaram resolves to honor every creature without exception, because he means to see God in each one. So bowing to beings is not flattery; it is worship of the one Narayana present everywhere, recalled at every step. He filters out the sense of difference between high and low, self and other, and claims the Veda's own authority for doing so. Once difference is gone, there is no second, no other to attach to or rely on; God alone remains, and company with anything else simply has no meaning.
