Tukaram Gatha (Marathi Wikisource)

English Translation

All beings have been fed in full; the entire earth has been given in charity. Every hour, day and night, has been devoted in purity; every auspicious observance and sacred occasion has been fulfilled. All pilgrimages, vows, and sacrifices have been performed; every action has been completed in its entirety. All fruits have come into our hands, and everything has been offered to You, O Ananta.

We ask forgiveness for any inaccuracies in rendering Tukaram ji’s original Marathi.

In Plain Words

All beings have been fed in full; the whole earth has been given away in charity. Every hour, day and night, has been spent in purity; every holy day and sacred season has been observed. All pilgrimages, all vows, all sacrifices have been performed; every act has been completed entire. All the fruit has come into our hands, and the whole of it has been offered to You, O Ananta.

What it means

Tukaram sings of a single act that contains every act of merit. To feed all beings, give away the earth, keep every hour pure, observe every holy day, complete every pilgrimage, vow, and sacrifice: he claims all of it as done. The secret is in the last line. By offering the whole of it, and himself, to Ananta, the endless One, the surrender gathers up and fulfills every separate rite at once. He need not perform them piece by piece; love laid wholly at God's feet is the completion of them all, and so all their fruit returns to his hands only to be given back to God.
