In the closing couplets of the ninth avakāśa, Rāmacaraṇa dismisses even the cleverest and most varied poetry when it abandons the Lord's Name: what use is its showy fruit? Ajāmila, the Yavana, the deluded, the wrathful boar, and even a son who uttered 'harāma' gained a path through a name; then surely he, who calls himself utterly fallen, need not despair. The colophon closes the ninth avakāśa, on the Great Mantra and the designation of the consummate Great Word. The tenth avakāśa begins. The Lord asks Śruti to understand and explain four designations of Brahman's form, for noble people whose very life and treasure is holy company apprehend them through the power of the Name. There are the perishable, the imperishable, the 'nekṣara' beyond it, and another Person; these are four deathless stations with distinct nuances. First comes perishable Brahman: the elements and principles are called Brahman—the praṇava, the three qualities, space, wind, fire, water, earth, mind, intellect, ego, sound, touch, form, taste, smell, creation and maintenance, pleasure and pain, the Veda and ritual action.
