The opening lines complete stanza 13: between the Supreme Self, the individual self, and Brahman stands the beautiful witness, a skilful interpreter who explains each to the other and brings them together. Knowing the name, Śuka left his father and entered the forest's abundant sport. Dattātreya and Jaḍabharata knew it and reduced worldly attachment to ashes. The Lord gave Uddhava the name, by whose power he tasted every rasa; Kapila, equipped with Sāṃkhya teaching, gave his mother the name to drink. Sudāmā asked only the gift of love and was absorbed through the name's power. Poor Ajī and Vidura held the name-jewel as unwavering wealth of mind. The women of Braj abandoned everything and worshipped Hari in the separation-rasa of the name; Rāmacaraṇa tells the name that, bearing it, he casts off the world's burden. Prahlāda knew the name, whose sound pulsed in every hair; hearing it for his devotee's sake, the Lord broke the pillar and appeared. Dhruva knew the Lord's name and gained kingship and a divine seat. Vālmīki grasped the name in reversed form, and both forms purified his mind. These and many others became worthy of the Lord by extracting the name-jewel from the mountain of the Veda with the mattock of good understanding. Sleeping or waking, morning, midday, and night, in pure or impure places, one who constantly repeats Rāma's name becomes stainless through all three times. Practise yoga, sacrifice, recitation, knowledge, charity, and austerity for millions of births: without the true guru the name is not found, though millions of bodies waste away. Hearing the name's form, the Vedas become absorbed and seem to know the path's ecstasy; thus Ajāmila recognizes his own, like a lion meeting a lion.
