Mīmāṃsā says that speech and the universe's perishable form are Brahman. Though that principle is styled imperishable, from the higher vantage all of it is seen to perish. Rāmacaraṇa frankly says that none is more fallen than he: abandoning Sītā-Rāma's feet, how could worship of the perishable serve him? Hear, then, the Vedāntic account of Self-Brahman: stainless, qualityless, unmoving, partless, nondual and supremely radiant. From it the cosmic egg shines and the universe is filled, while it remains unattached like wind in space or one sun reflected in many vessels. The three qualities and action color the vessel-water, so the sun is not rightly grasped; when the vessel breaks, the water's name and form vanish and the reflected light abides in the sun. The same sun appears in vessels small and great, auspicious and inauspicious; likewise the Self pervades moving and unmoving things, earth and sky. It neither comes nor goes, dies nor is killed; the three qualities and action only eclipse it like Rāhu veiling the full moon. It is neither child, youth nor aged, neither heat nor cold, sin nor merit, pleasure nor pain, hell nor heaven; it is no celestial race, social order, saint or non-saint, sun, moon, or creature. Self-Brahman dwells within all the perishable, as one seed's pattern recurs in every seed of innumerable trees, or as unseen oil in sesame and ghee in milk, revealed only by pressing and churning.
