(दोहा) प्रभु पूछे सुग्रीव, कह निग्रह करिए नाथ। कृपासिंधु बोले बचन, भर अनुग्रह पाथ॥२॥ सवैया— आवहिं मित्र सु भाव गहे, न तजौं तिन्ह काहिं जथा लग अण्डा। जो रसरङ्ग सदोष तऊ अपनाय, हरौं सब पाप प्रचण्डा॥ जाँचहिं एकहुँ बार प्रपन्न, कहें तुम्हरो रघुवीर अदण्डा। देउँ अभय सब प्रानिन को, यह है हमरो ब्रत एक अखण्डा॥३४॥ (दोहा) आनहु वेगि हरीश, हम दिए अभय याहि काहि। होइ विभीषण वा स्वयं, तजौं रावण नाहिं॥३॥ कवित्त— दिए अभयदान राम कृपा के निधान, परे पायन सुजान रामभक्त जातुधान हैं। भरि के भुजान प्रभु भेंटि मानपान कीन्हे, राजा भगवान जाने भरत समान हैं॥ सुखी हनुमान देखि दीन सनमान किए, जे जे जसगान रसरङ्ग हरषान हैं। स्वामी शीलवान के सुभाव पे निदान पाय, मोद बेप्रमान सो विभीषन विकान हैं॥३५॥ इति सुन्दरकाण्डम् सम्पूर्णम्॥ करुणानिकेतु नल सेतु तें उतरि सिंधु, अंगद वसीठ दशकंठ पै पठायो है। मीचुवस नीच नहीं मान्यो, कपि घेरे लंक हरे; कीस-निशिचर घोर सोर छायो है॥ कुमुख अकंपन प्रहस्त आदि जूझे खल, रावण हूँ हारि कुंभकर्ण को जगायो है। मारे घटकर्ण काहिं राम, रसरङ्ग तब जङ्ग कियो रामानुज रावण को जाया है॥३६॥ (दोहा) महा शक्ति लछिमन हिए लागी लखि रघुराय। करुणासिंधु विलाप मिसु बचन कहे विलखाय॥४॥
Fresh English translation
Sugrīva asks the Lord whether the newcomer should be restrained. The ocean of mercy answers with words filled with grace. Rāma declares that when anyone approaches him in the disposition of a friend, he will not abandon that person for as long as the cosmic egg endures. Even if the refugee is blameworthy, Rāma will accept him and remove every fierce sin. Whoever asks refuge even once receives fearlessness: this is Raghubīra’s unbroken vow. Rāma orders the monkey king to bring Vibhīṣaṇa quickly, for he has granted him safety—whether he truly is Vibhīṣaṇa or even Rāvaṇa himself. The gracious Lord gives the rākṣasa devotee fearlessness. Vibhīṣaṇa falls at his feet; the Lord embraces him, honours him, and treats him like Bharata. Hanumān rejoices to see the lowly one honoured, and all who sing the Lord’s praise are delighted by the gracious nature of this virtuous master. Thus the Sundara Kāṇḍa is complete. At the opening of the war, the abode of compassion crosses the ocean by Nala’s bridge and sends Aṅgada to the ten-headed king. Ruled by death, the base Rāvaṇa refuses counsel. The monkeys surround Laṅkā and a terrible tumult rises between monkeys and night-wanderers. Rāvaṇa’s champions—including Kumukha, Akampana, and Prahasta—fight and fall, and in desperation he wakes Kumbhakarṇa. Rāma kills that giant; then Rāma’s younger brother battles Rāvaṇa’s son. When a mighty spear strikes Lakṣmaṇa in the breast, Raghurāya beholds him and, under the guise of lamentation, speaks in grief.
