[Root — Chaupai and Doha] Hahhā: Nothing will come into your hands unless you act; what you have gained, you gained by searching with your own hands. Even the body you obtained will be left here; perform good deeds and thereby receive it fruitfully again. Hahhā: Know generous, respectful giving to be a promissory note held in the heart. Whatever one gives with a pure mind, count that alone as one’s own. [Sujana-prabodhinī Simple Commentary] Through ha, Śrī Rasik Alī repeatedly says that nothing comes into your hands without action. What you have obtained was found through searching; without seeking and desiring, nothing is gained. Know this certainly. The body indeed came through Bhagavān’s causeless compassion, but you have not valued it, and it too will be left here rather than accompany you. To make it meaningful, perform beautiful deeds and follow the paths centred on Bhagavān and his devotees. If work remains, another body will come; without auspicious action, this one will slip uselessly from your hands and may not return. Therefore give beautifully and with honour. Such giving is a visible promissory note kept in the heart and bearing immediate fruit. What you give with a pure mind returns to you, and the mind becomes pure and free of corruption. Only the benefit you place into others’ hands is truly yours; no other possession goes with you. ‘By whatever means one gives a gift, it brings welfare.’ (Gosvāmī Tulasīdāsa) Give the good gift with a joyful mind; that wealth purifies and brings welfare.
