[Root — Chaupai and Doha] Sassā: Examine everything within your own mind; let no limb be deficient. Brother, discernment is not pure if humility has not first entered the mind. Sassā: Embrace every principle taught here, expressed decisively in varied words through the letters beginning with ka. [Sujana-prabodhinī Simple Commentary] Through sa, Śrī Rasik Alī commands one to examine the whole mind and ask whether any limb of love on the Lord’s path is deficient, for every faculty should be engaged in him. See his form from toe to crown, hear and sing his deeds, bow the head, serve with hands and feet, walk toward the good, and bring sacred leaves, flowers, fruit, and water for worship. Reflect on him with mind, contemplate him with consciousness, resolve upon him with intellect, and direct even self-awareness toward him. Humility alone admits every virtue into the heart; pride prevents virtue from dwelling there. If humility—awareness of one’s lowliness—has not entered first, nothing has happened. Pure discernment means behaving humbly and selflessly toward every being, allowing no pride to arise. Carefully preserve this. The author now asks readers to understand and adopt all the principles expressed in many forms through the consonants beginning with ka. Hear the speech of Śrī Hari’s devotees and saints; reflect upon it and hold it in the heart, knowing it to be for your own good.
