[मूल — चौपाई और दोहा] वव्वा वास दुष्ट संग त्यागो। दुष्ट वास जानो सम आगी॥ सदा वास संतन में कीजे। सदा मोद पुन दोष जो छीने॥ वव्वा वसत जो संत में, सो यश भाजन होत। दुष्ट पास दुख दान पुन, बढ़त अयश को गोत॥ [सुजन-प्रबोधिनी सरल टीका] श्री रसिक अली जी महाराज वकार व्यंजन द्वारा संकेत करते हुये कह रहे हैं कि दुष्टों से संग को सदैव परित्याग किये रहो और जो दुष्ट हृदय यानी कठोर हृदय वाले, दया रहित जनों का निवास स्थान अपने समीप न रक्खो। न अपने स्थान में दुष्ट जनों को रक्खो। क्योंकि दुष्टों का वास समीप रहने से तुम निश्चय करके जानो कि प्रज्वलित अग्नि ही पास में है। न मालूम किस समय अपने सहित निवास स्थान को जला दे। इससे दुष्टों का संग भूल कर भी न करना। यदि किसी का संग ही करना चाहते हो तो निर्भय निःसंदेह संत जनों के समीप में ही सदैव रहो। संत सज्जनों को अपने पास भी सदैव रक्खो। दुष्टों को पास में रखने से, व उनके पास रहने से सदैव अमंगल और दोष दुख ही प्राप्त होगा। चैन नहीं मिलेगा। संत सज्जन के पास रहने व अपने पास रखने से सदैव भीतर बाहर की इन्द्रियों द्वारा आनन्द ही मिलेगा और जो पातक दोष होंगे वे भी नष्टता को प्राप्त हो जायेंगे और जो सज्जन जन संतों में ही रहते हैं। और संतों की संगत सदैव किया करते हैं, और संतों के निकट ही निवास रखते हैं। सो वह जन यश कीर्ति के भाजन हैं। अर्थात कीर्ति पात्र होते हुये ही जगत में भी यश भाजन होते हैं। यश मयी ही अपना और अपने संगियों का उत्साह बढ़ाते हैं और जो दुष्ट अपने पास में रहे व दुष्टों के पास आप खुद जाकर रहें तो सदैव दुख का ही दान देते हैं। दुख ही बाँटते रहते हैं और दुष्टों के संग से जगत के बीच में अपयश ही बढ़ता है और अपयश का संस्कार ही प्रबल होता है ये भाव है। इससे भल संगत निसि वासर करिये। दुष्ट संग नहि कर परिहरिये॥
[Root — Chaupai and Doha] Vavvā: Renounce dwelling in the company of the wicked; know the presence of the wicked to be like fire. Always make your dwelling among the saints; there is continual joy, and faults are destroyed. Vavvā: One who dwells among saints becomes a vessel of honour. Near the wicked, suffering is dealt out and the lineage of disgrace increases. [Sujana-prabodhinī Simple Commentary] Through the consonant va, Śrī Rasik Alī indicates: Always renounce association with the wicked. Do not allow cruel-hearted people—those with hard hearts and no compassion—to make their dwelling near you, nor lodge wicked people in your own place. When the wicked dwell nearby, know with certainty that a blazing fire is close at hand. No one knows when it may burn down the dwelling together with its occupant. Therefore do not associate with the wicked, even by mistake. If you wish to keep anyone’s company, remain always and without fear or doubt near saintly people. Keep good and saintly people near you as well. Keeping wicked people close, or remaining close to them, continually brings misfortune, fault, and suffering; there will be no peace. Remaining near saintly people, or keeping them near, continually brings delight inwardly and outwardly through the senses, while sinful faults are destroyed. Good people who remain among saints, continually keep their company, and dwell near them become vessels of honour and renown. They are worthy of honour and therefore become honoured in the world. Through that honour they increase the enthusiasm of themselves and their companions. But if wicked people remain near you, or if you yourself go and stay near them, they continually give only suffering and keep distributing pain. Amid the world, association with the wicked increases disgrace, and the disposition toward disgrace grows strong. This is the intended meaning. Therefore: Keep good company by night and day; do not keep evil company—reject it.
