[मूल — चौपाई और दोहा] यय्या या में जस जग होई। चलो चाल गहि नीति जो सोई॥ नीति छाँड़ एक पाँव न धरिये। सत संगति बिबेक अनुसरिये॥ यय्या जल को नहाइयो, तन पवित्र जिय होय। ज्ञान वारि अन्हवाइये, तब आतम शुचि जोय॥ [सुजन-प्रबोधिनी सरल टीका] श्री रसिक अली जी महाराज यकार व्यंजन द्वारा कहते हैं कि जिस प्रकार से जगत के बीच में, यश अर्थात् कीर्ति हो वही चाल को चलो। नीति पथ को पकड़े रहो अर्थात् नीति पथ को ग्रहण किये हुये जिस प्रकार जगत के बीच में सुन्दर यश प्राप्त हो। वही रास्ता चलिये और एक पग भी नीति को त्याग मार्ग नहीं चलिये और सतपुरुषों की संगति में रहकर विवेक पूर्वक अनुकरण करिये। अर्थात् विवेकानुसार चलिये और विवेक युत रहिये। अर्थात् जिस प्रकार जल से स्नान करने से शरीर पवित्र हो जाता है और कुछ तन में शान्ति भी आ जाती है। इसी प्रकार ज्ञान रूपी निर्मल जल से अर्थात् ज्ञानाकार तदाकार रूपा जल से आत्मा के स्नान कराने से यानी ज्ञान मय वृत्ति (स्वभाव) रखने से ज्ञानरूप स्नान आत्मा को कराने से, आत्मा परम पवित्र देखने में आती है। लौकिक जल से शरीर के स्नान कराये जाते हैं और पारलौकिक ज्ञान जल से आत्मा के स्नान कराये जाते हैं। तब आत्मा पवित्र होती है और लौकिक ज्ञान में रहने से अपवित्र सी ही दिखती रहती है ये भाव हैं। प्रभु स्वरूप गुण गण को ज्ञाना। आतम अमल करत सनाना॥
[Root — Chaupai and Doha] Yayyā: Follow the course that brings honour in the world; hold fast to the way of righteous conduct. Do not take even one step after abandoning that path; keep holy company and follow it with discernment. Yayyā: Bathe in water, and the body is purified and the heart refreshed. Bathe the self in the water of knowledge, and then behold it as pure. [Sujana-prabodhinī Simple Commentary] Through the consonant ya, Śrī Rasik Alī says: Follow the kind of conduct that brings honour—that is, a good reputation—within the world. Hold firmly to the path of right conduct. Embrace that path by which a beautiful reputation is gained in the world. Walk along it and do not take even a single step on a road that abandons right conduct. Remain in the company of holy people and follow their example with discernment—that is, live according to discernment and remain endowed with it. Just as bathing in water purifies the body and brings it a measure of peace, bathe the self in the pure water of knowledge: water that assumes the very form of knowledge. This means sustaining a disposition filled with knowledge and giving the self a bath made of knowledge; the self then appears supremely pure. The body is bathed in ordinary water, while the self is bathed in the transcendent water of knowledge. It then becomes pure; while remaining only in worldly knowledge it continues to appear impure. This is the intended meaning. Knowledge of the Lord’s nature and hosts of qualities bathes the self and makes it stainless.
