[Root — Chaupai and Doha] Ṭhaṭṭhā: Establish this splendour within the mind: offer body, wealth, and mind to the true guru. First seek knowledge with earnest longing; take hold of dispassion and give the heart to devotion. Ṭhaṭṭhā: Know it to be right when the self and the Supreme are beheld; when every worldly craving falls away and everything appears pervaded by the Lord. [Sujana-prabodhinī Simple Commentary] Śrī Rasik Alī Jī Mahārāja says: If you wish to establish true splendour, then establish this resolve firmly in the mind: offer body, wealth, and mind to the true guru who bestows the seed-mantra of the Divine Couple, Śrī Sītā-Rāma. In other words, entrust the care of the body to him. Whatever wealth you possess, give it all to him; retain no sense of ‘mine’ in wealth. Place the mind likewise in his hands, keeping nothing within it without his knowledge—no deceit, duplicity, or concealment of any kind. Then first cultivate the longing to understand matters concerning your Lord. Desire this knowledge. Knowing the arrangements of the world is not knowledge; that is ignorance. True knowledge is to know the wisdom wholly pervaded by the Lord. Thereafter renounce the world’s five sense-objects—sound, touch, form, taste, and scent; that is, practise dispassion. Adopt a disposition free from attachment. Then place the heart in the ninefold and related forms of devotion—hearing, singing, remembrance, service at the feet, worship, servitude, friendship, self-surrender, and so forth—and embrace devotions directed toward Bhagavān and the Bhāgavatas. And so forth. When the splendour described above has been firmly established, know that it has become right. Then behold your own essential nature and the supreme nature. That is: through engagement in devotion and by the Lord’s grace, perceive within yourself the attainment of your true, transcendent state. Thereafter, freed from worldly craving, behold the whole universe within the Lord alone. What more need be said? Become perfected in the disposition, ‘Wherever one looks, there stands the Bearer of the bow.’ Know that all your state and bearing have become right only when awareness of your own essential nature has arisen and become visible, and when awareness of the supreme nature has likewise become visible. Then every craving for the world falls away, and every visible thing begins to appear pervaded by the Lord. And so forth. Know every splendour apart from the Lord to be vain; with the Lord, regard everything as service to the Lord. Love for Hari’s feet establishes the true yoga; it stills delusion and erases craving at its root.
