[Root — Two Chaupais] Hold to the essential teaching and its virtue; thus easily cross the fearsome ocean of becoming. Wealth and family—nothing is stable; in a moment it passes, and in a moment it arises. [Sujana-prabodhinī Simple Commentary] In this world, wealth and such things—rupees, money, gold, silver, elephants, horses, carriages, motorcars, estates, kingdoms, land, places, household, family, mother, father, brothers, relatives, and connections—none remains stable; all are in motion. They are destroyed in a moment and in a moment are formed anew. Śrī Prabhu Himself says: ‘Sons, wealth, wife, house, and family arise and pass away again and again in the world.’ The body's relationships last only as long as one lives. When the body falls away, everything is left behind; on taking another body, relationships form again, and even before our eyes new ones continually arise and disappear. Nothing here deserves sustained contemplation. What, then, should one contemplate? ‘Therefore love Rāma, Sīyā's Lord; abandon every doubt within the heart.’ Śrī Sītā-Rāma Jī are supreme and remain eternally of one essence. Therefore offer the highest love only to Śrī Rāma Jī, who is Śrī Sītā Jī's bridegroom. Dissolve every other love into love for Them and love Them alone. Keep no kind of doubt in the heart. Abandon every doubt—that is, unbelief—and love Śrī Sītā-Rāma Jī alone with firm faith. In truth, only love for Śrī Sītā-Rāma Jī Prabhu is excellent and praiseworthy; all other loves are not praiseworthy, because they break in a moment. Therefore— ‘Know this alone in your heart as the supreme essence; accept the words of saints, scripture, and guru.’ Know and understand in your heart only that love for Śrī Prabhu Sītā-Rāma Jī, the supreme Reality and highest essence. Saints, great souls, worthy householders—women and men—and the true guru repeatedly teach this; accept it and establish firm conviction in it. The meaning is that everything devoid of love for Śrī Sītā-Rāma Jī should be understood as insubstantial. This is the settled teaching of all good people: ‘This is everyone's judgment, O lord of birds: love the lotus feet of Rāma.’ And so forth.
