HV 9.1
मनोर् वैवस्वतस्यासन् पुत्रा वै नव तत्समाः । इक्ष्वाकुश् चैव नाभागश् च धृष्णुः शर्यातिर् एव च ॥
manor vaivasvatasyāsan putrā vai nava tat-samāḥ | ikṣvākuś caiva nābhāgaś ca dhṛṣṇuḥ śaryātir eva ca
Of Vaivasvata Manu there were nine sons, equal to him: Ikṣvāku, Nābhāga, Dhṛṣṇu, Śaryāti...
The Living Words
*Manor vaivasvatasya... putrā nava*, 'nine sons of Vaivasvata Manu'. *Tat-samāḥ*, 'equal to him'. *Ikṣvākuḥ, nābhāgaḥ, dhṛṣṇuḥ, śaryātiḥ*, four of the nine.
The Heart of It
The verse names *Ikṣvāku* first. The Varkari tradition's careful attention: the founder of the solar dynasty — through whom Rāma will come — is the *first* of Manu's sons listed. *Tat-samāḥ* — 'equal to him' — each son inherits Manu's full dignity, not a diminished fraction. Jñāneśvar's Haripāṭh's teaching that the generations of the righteous receive *pūrṇa-saṃskāra*, not a gradual diluting of heritage, has HV 9.1 as its Sanskrit warrant.
