Fresh English translation

‘To those who remain constantly joined to me and worship with love, I give that discipline of understanding by which they come to me.’ Meaning: To those who always worship me with devotion I give this pure and lucid understanding, by which they attain me—that is, they begin to worship me with still greater firmness. Drawing on the cited commentaries, the author concludes that buddhi-yoga culminates in mature devotional yoga: ordinary understanding is made divine. See also Bhagavad Gītā 11.8: ‘You cannot see me with this ordinary eye of yours. I give you divine sight; behold my sovereign yoga.’ Meaning: Arjuna cannot see the Lord's divine form with an ordinary eye, so the Lord gives him divine sight. Does this mean replacing his eye with another? No. The same eye is made supramundane and divine, while its ordinary material condition is dissolved. The arising of a divine inner instrument and the dissolution of the ordinary one should be understood in the same way. Having reached this condition, the living self becomes qualified to hold the truth of the Divine Couple, Śrī Sītā-Rāma.
