साष्टाङ्ग दण्डवत् करके पूछे कि हे स्वामिन्, इस जीव का अनेक योनियों में बार बार जो जन्म मरण होता है उसका क्या कारण है? (उत्तर) मोह। (प्रश्न) मोह का क्या स्वरूप है? (उत्तर) सत वस्तु जो श्रीयुगलसरकार हैं, उनको भूल जाना, उनके साथ सम्बन्ध नहीं करना और असत् जो संसारी सम्बन्ध, उसके साथ सम्बन्ध करना। (प्रश्न) सत्य क्या पदार्थ है? और असत्य क्या है? हे प्रभो दयालो, कृपा कर इसे कहिये। हे स्वामीजी, मैं आपके श्रीचरणों में बार बार प्रणाम करता हूँ। संसार सागर से हमारा उद्धार कीजिये। उत्तर—देह से जीवात्मा भिन्न पदार्थ है, परञ्च अज्ञानवश देह को ही आत्मा मान लेना और देह सम्बन्धी गृह और परिवार आदि हैं, उनमें अत्यन्त अपनापन होता है—यही मोह का प्रभाव है। प्रश्नः—मोहस्य किं बीजम्? उत्तरम्—रजस्तमस्सत्त्वमयी सनातनी माया। प्रश्नः—मायाया नियन्ता कः? उत्तरम्—परब्रह्म दाशरथिः श्रीरामचन्द्रः। प्रश्नः—मायाकृतो मोहः कथं निवर्तते? उत्तरम्—ये सम्यक् प्रकारेण श्रीसीतारामतत्त्ववेत्तारः—

—one should make a full prostration and ask: ‘Master, what causes this living being to undergo birth and death again and again in many forms of life?’ Answer: delusion. Question: What is the form of delusion? Answer: It is to forget the real—the Divine Couple—and not form one’s relationship with them, while instead forming a relationship with unreal worldly ties. Question: What is the real, and what is the unreal? Compassionate Lord, please be gracious and explain this. Master, I bow again and again at your feet. Carry us across the ocean of worldly existence. Answer: The individual self is a reality distinct from the body. Yet, because of ignorance, one takes the body itself to be the self and develops an intense sense of ‘mine’ toward the house, family, and other things connected with that body. This is the influence of delusion. Question: What is the seed of delusion? Answer: Beginningless Māyā, composed of rajas, tamas, and sattva. Question: Who governs Māyā? Answer: Śrī Rāmacandra, son of Daśaratha and the Supreme Brahman. Question: How does the delusion produced by Māyā cease? Answer: Those who understand the truth of Śrī Sītā-Rāma correctly—
