Fresh English translation

Pure dharma crosses above all and beautifully reaches the far shore of holy books. Whoever wears dharma as armour upon the body can never be defeated in any way. Raghunāyaka protects the bridge of dharma and continually helps righteous good people. Practise dharma naturally without desire and, abandoning delusion, attain the supreme Abode. One who performs dharma with desire repeatedly receives the fruit of the tree of becoming. Therefore, brother, purify the mind and adorn yourself with the joy-giving conduct of dharma. Understand wealth in its capable nature together with the non-wealth it may become; examine it with discrimination. Especially in accordance with one’s class and stage of life, one plants the seed and abandons hostility. First gather wealth together with dharma, then preserve it firmly by many methods. Use abundant resources to serve mother, father, guest, gods, guru, and the Divine. Apply wealth among the rasikas of Sītā’s Lord and drive away the desire to enjoy possessions. If desire remains within, the person goes to heaven and beholds many pleasures; if desirelessness accompanies wealth, one attains the Lord’s Abode, as countless Purāṇas sweetly attest. Revelation calls wealth a cause of calamity, yet praises it when joined to discrimination. The fruit of dharma without discernment is insipid, while wealth free of calamity is excellent. A creature who spends wealth for selfish ends receives many kinds of suffering. Third, consider the stain of desire, especially the sexual object of woman; or understand the many powers and accomplishments that the wise describe as forms of desire. Sexual desire is again recognized as twofold, pure and impure. Dear one, discriminate them: the first conforms to Vedic ordinance and is uncorrupted.
