अथ अर्थ-पंचक जीव, ईश, साधन, सुफल, अफल विरोधी जानु । युगल अनन्य शरण सुभग, अर्थ पांच ये मानु ॥८॥ एक-एक मधि पंचधा, भेद अभेद बिचार । इनको नित मन मनन करि, बिलग विषय व्यवहार ॥९॥ चौपाई— तिनके सब लक्षण सुखदाई । सुनो गुनो मुद मोद बढ़ाई ॥ जीव-विवेचन प्रथमहिं जीव स्वाभाव सुनीजै । ज्ञानानंद चितहिं दिल दीजै ॥ अविनासी अज्ञान बिहीना । भयो सो कर्म-भर्म-आधीना ॥ है अनादि बंधन नहिं नूतन । बरन्यो सद्ग्रंथन अवधूतन ॥ तामें भेद पांच पुनि हेरो । बद्ध मुमुक्षु कैवल्यहिं हेरो ॥ मुक्त नित्यमुक्तहु मन मोहै । विश्व वासना बिरस बिछोहै ॥ बद्ध प्रकृति बिवस सोइ बद्ध कहावै । सार बिसार असार गहावै ॥ विषय भोग मधि रुचि अधिकाई । चाहत नित जग मान बड़ाई ॥ सुगुरु ज्ञान विपरीत करावन । दुख समुद्र सब भांति भरावन ॥ साधन बहु बाधन के कारन । करत मूढ़ आनन्द निवारन ॥ प्रभु सम्बन्धि समीप न जावै । शंका सहित चित्त सकुचावै ॥ सारासार बोध नहिं रंचक । भावै सदा संग जग बंचक ॥ मल-मूत्रादि कलीनन को घर । तामें मगन होत प्रमुदित-तर ॥ महा अपावनता जेहि माहीं । ता तनुहित अतिरति उपजाहीं ॥ जननी जनक सुवन गृह बामा । मानै हितकारी दुख-सामा ॥ योग समेत सतत हरषाहीं । भये वियोग अधिक बिलखाहीं ॥

Know the five truths to be the soul, the Lord, the means, the blessed fruit, and what opposes and frustrates it. Yugalānanya Śaraṇa says: accept these as the five meanings. Consider the fivefold distinctions and non-difference within each one; ponder them daily and turn away from commerce in sense-objects. Hear and reflect upon all their joy-giving characteristics, and let glad delight increase. First hear the soul’s nature and give your heart to the bliss of knowledge. The soul is imperishable and originally free of ignorance, yet has come under the sway of action and delusion. Its bondage is beginningless, not newly made; holy books and renunciants have described it. See five distinctions within the soul: the bound, the seeker of liberation, the one in isolated liberation, the liberated, and the eternally liberated. Their contemplation enchants the mind and severs tasteless attachment to worldly desire. The one ruled by material nature is called bound. Forgetting the essential, that soul grasps the worthless, takes excessive pleasure in sensory enjoyment, and continually desires worldly esteem and greatness. It acts contrary to the true guru’s knowledge and fills the ocean of sorrow in every way. The fool performs many practices that become causes of further bondage and drive away joy. It will not approach those related to the Lord, but shrinks back suspiciously. It has not the slightest discernment between essence and non-essence and always prefers the company of worldly deceivers. The body is a house filled with filth such as excrement and urine, yet the bound soul immerses itself there with intense delight. It develops excessive attachment to this body, though it contains such impurity. Mother, father, children, house, and wife are taken as benefactors, although they are companions in sorrow. When joined to them it constantly rejoices, and when separated from them it laments exceedingly.
