मुH होता परी बळें जाला बद्ध । घेउनियां छंद माझें माझें ॥1॥

English Translation

The soul was free, yet by force of the craving for 'mine' and 'mine' it became bound. Sin and merit clung to the body, and the self forgot who the true doer is. Says Tuka, without that essential knowledge everything is wasted, like a deer exhausting itself chasing a mirage.
