WHAT will it avail to live in a glen or a forest, if inward peace be absent ? But are those few that have already gone there, and what have they gained? If you enter the forest, you will fall into pits; what will you gain by that? What good will ashes, mere ashes, do, if the inward parts be impure ? The pious deeds of every class or station vanish, when men grow weary of them. Tuka says, These things are all snares; give up your trust in them, then it will be well with you.
