Do not let your heart become displeased with me, and do not turn your eyes away. Listen, Rāma: apart from you, nowhere in this world or the next is there anyone who seeks my good. (1) Knowing me to be without virtue, unworthy, lazy, vile, and apart from all others, self-interested companions abandoned me like an inauspicious charm against the ague and never once looked back. (2) Seeing me devoid of devotion, outside the Vedic way, and surrounded by the Kali age's filth, even the gods abandoned me, O God. They did me no injustice, for I have offended everyone. (3) I fill my belly under the shelter of the Name, yet I am called your servant. The matter has become known throughout the world; decide for yourself which is greater—the world or the Veda. (4) Whenever Tulsi's good comes, it will come from you alone. This lowly one grows worse day by day; I am devoted to you—do not delay, but accept me soon. (5)
