सोइ सुकृती, सुचि साँचो जाहि राम! तुम रीझे। गनिका, गीध, बधिक हरिपुर गये, लै कासी प्रयाग कब सीझे॥ १॥ कबहुँ न डग्यो निगम-मगतें पग, नृग जग जानि जिते दुख पाये। गजधौं कौन दिछित, जाके सुमिरत लै सुनाभ बाहन तजि धाये॥ २॥ सुर-मुनि-बिप्र बिहाय बड़े कुल, गोकुल जनम गोपगृह लीन्हो। बायो दियो बिभव कुरुपतिको, भोजन जाइ बिदुर-घर कीन्हो॥ ३॥ मानत भलहि भलो भगतनितें, कछुक रीति पारथहि जनाई। तुलसी सहज सनेह राम बस, और सबै जलकी चिकनाई॥ ४॥

He alone is truly meritorious and pure with whom you, O Rāma, are pleased. The courtesan, the vulture, and the hunter went to Hari’s abode—when did they attain perfection by resorting to Kāśī or Prayāga? (1) Nṛga’s foot never strayed from the Vedic path, yet the world knows how much suffering he endured. What initiation had the elephant received, at whose remembrance you seized Sudarśana, abandoned your mount, and ran? (2) Leaving the high lineages of gods, sages, and brahmins, you took birth in a cowherd’s house in Gokula. You rejected the Kuru king’s splendor and went to eat in Vidura’s house. (3) You count what comes from devotees as good indeed, and revealed something of this way to Pārtha. Tulsi, simple natural love holds Rāma fast; everything else is merely the slickness of water. (4)
