तब तुम मोहूसे सठनिको हठि गति न देते। कैसेहुँ नाम लेइ कोउ पामर, सुनि सादर आगे ह्वै लेते॥ १॥ पाप-खानि जिय जानि अजामिल जमगन तमकि तये ताको भे ते। लियो छुड़ाइ, चले कर मींजत, पीसत दाँत गये रिस-रेते॥ २॥ गौतम-तिय, गज, गीध, बिटप, कपि, हैं नाथहिं नीके मालुम जेते। तिन्ह तिन्ह काजनि साधु-समाजु तजि कृपासिंधु तब तब उठिगे ते॥ ३॥ अजहुँ अधिक आदर येहि द्वारे, पतित पुनीत होत नहिं केते। मेरे पासंगहु न पूजिहैं, ह्वै गये, हैं, होने खल जेते॥ ४॥ हौं अबलौं करतूति तिहारिय चितवत हुतो न रावरे चेते। अब तुलसी पूतरो बाँधिहै, सहि न जात मोपै परिहास एते॥ ५॥

Why then do you not insist upon granting release even to a villain like me? However some wretch may utter the Name, upon hearing it you respectfully step forward and take him. (1) The hosts of Yama, knowing Ajāmila in their hearts as a mine of sin, rushed at him in wrath and made him afraid. You freed him; they went away wringing their hands and grinding their teeth, their rage spent. (2) Gautama’s wife, the elephant, the vulture, the trees, and the monkey—the Lord knows well what each of them was. Whenever their need arose, the Ocean of Compassion left even the assembly of saints and rose to help them. (3) Even today the fallen receive special honor at this door, and how many are not made pure? All the villains who have been, are, or will be would not equal even my counterweight. (4) Until now I had been watching your deeds, but you gave no thought to me. Now Tulsi will tie up an effigy of you, for I can no longer endure so much mockery. (5)
