Rāga Kalyāṇa What other Lord has such a way? To uphold his renowned vow, he passes over the pure and loves the lowly. (1) Pūtanā came to kill him, smearing deadly poison upon her breasts; the compassionate king of the Yādavas granted her a mother’s destiny. (2) He bestowed incomparable grace upon the cowherd women overcome by desire—those whose foot-dust Brahmā, father of the world, took. (3) Śiśupāla made a rule of hurling counted insults day after day; in the middle of the royal assembly Hari absorbed him into himself. (4) The foolish hunter, taking him for a deer, aimed at and struck his foot; manifesting his own renowned way, he sent that man bodily to his own realm. (5) What need be said of those who have both merit and sin? He even kept in refuge Tulsi, the manifest embodiment of sin. (6)
