Such is Śrī Raghubīra’s way: discerning pure love in the heart, he shows affection even to the lowly. (1) The Niṣāda was utterly base and lowly—what standing did he have? Recognizing his love, Rama drew him to his heart like a son. (2) How was the vulture compassionate, when fate had created him steeped in violence? Raghunātha gave him water with his own hand as one would to a father. (3) Śabarī was impure by nature, lowborn, a mine of every fault; yet he ate the fruits she gave, repeatedly praising their delightful taste. (4) Knowing that Vibhīṣaṇa, a night-roamer and an enemy, had come for refuge, Rama rose and embraced him like Bharata, forgetting awareness of his own body. (5) Which monkeys were handsome and virtuous, when even remembering them was deemed harmful? Yet he made them all friends, brought them to his home, and honored them. (6) Rama is naturally compassionate and tender, benefactor of the poor and ever-generous. Tulsi, worship such a Lord without harboring crookedness or deceit. (7)
