What work did you accomplish by taking a human body? You never once considered service to others, the essence of the Veda. (1) The tree of becoming has duality for its root, fear for thorns, and sorrow for fruit; you did not cut it down with the sharp axe of Rama-worship. (2) You did not board the boat of the Name and carry your soul across the ocean of doubt. Witless through many births, you have not tired of wandering through many wombs. (3) Seeing another’s natural prosperity, you burned your mind in envy; you did not remember Hari with a cool heart through calm, restraint, compassion, and care for the poor. (4) In mind, deed, and word you forgot Raghupati—Lord, teacher, father, and friend. Tulsi’s hope is that he who delivered the vulture will keep him in refuge. (5)
