ताहि तें आयो सरन सबेरें। ग्यान बिराग भगति साधन कछु सपनेहुँ नाथ! न मेरें॥ १॥ लोभ-मोह-मद-काम-क्रोध रिपु फिरत रैनि-दिन घेरें। तिनहिं मिले मन भयो कुपथ-रत, फिरै तिहारेहि फेरें॥ २॥ दोष-निलय यह बिषय सोक-प्रद कहत संत श्रुति टेरें। जानत हूँ अनुराग तहाँ अति सो, हरि तुम्हरेहि प्रेरें?॥ ३॥ बिष पियूष सम करहु अगिनि हिम, तारि सकहु बिनु बेरें। तुम सम ईस कृपालु परम हित पुनि न पाइहौं हेरें॥ ४॥ यह जिय जानि रहौं सब तजि रघुबीर भरोसे तेरें। तुलसिदास यह बिपति बागुरौ तुम्हहिं सों बने निबेरें॥ ५॥
Therefore I came early to your refuge. Lord, not even in a dream do I possess any means such as knowledge, detachment, or devotion. (1) The enemies greed, delusion, pride, lust, and anger roam around me night and day. Joining them, my mind became devoted to a wrong path; it will turn only when you turn it. (2) Saints and the Veda cry aloud that these objects of sense are homes of fault and givers of sorrow. Knowing this, my immense attachment to them—Hari, is it by your prompting? (3) You can make poison like nectar and fire like snow; you can carry me across without a ship. Even searching, I will never again find a lord as compassionate and supremely beneficent as you. (4) Knowing this in my heart, I abandon everything and remain reliant upon you, Hero of Raghu’s line. This snare of calamity around Tulsidas can be undone only by you. (5)
