जानत प्रीति-रीति रघुराई। नाते सब हाते करि राखत, राम सनेह-सगाई॥ १॥ नेह निबाहि देह तजि दसरथ, कीरति अचल चलाई। ऐसेहु पितु तें अधिक गीधपर ममता गुन गरुआई॥ २॥ तिय-बिरही सुग्रीव सखा लखि प्रानप्रिया बिसराई। रन परयो बंधु बिभीषन ही को, सोच हृदय अधिकाई॥ ३॥ घर गुरुगृह प्रिय सदन सासुरे, भइ जब जहँ पहुनाई। तब तहँ कहि सबरीके फलनिकी रुचि माधुरी न पाई॥ ४॥ सहज सरूप कथा मुनि बरनत रहत सकुचि सिर नाई। केवट मीत कहे सुख मानत बानर बंधु बड़ाई॥ ५॥ प्रेम-कनौड़ो रामसो प्रभु त्रिभुवन तिहुँकाल न भाई। तेरो रिनी हौं कह्यो कपि सों ऐसी मानिहि को सेवकाई॥ ६॥ तुलसी राम-सनेह-सील लखि, जो न भगति उर आई। तौ तोहि जनमि जाय जननी जड़ तनु-तरुनता गवाँई॥ ७॥
Raghuraya knows the way of love. Putting every other relationship aside, Rama keeps only the kinship of affection. (1) Dasharatha upheld love and gave his body, establishing undying fame; yet Rama showed still greater tenderness and praise of virtue toward the vulture than toward such a father. (2) Seeing his friend Sugriva separated from his wife, he forgot his own beloved more precious than life. When his brother lay fallen in battle, his heart’s greater worry was for Vibhishana alone. (3) At home, in his teacher’s house, in a dear friend’s dwelling, or at his in-laws’, whenever and wherever he was a guest, he said that nowhere had he found the flavor and sweetness of Shabari’s fruits. (4) When sages describe his innate nature, he remains bashful with bowed head; but he delights to be called the boatman’s friend and counts being the monkeys’ brother as greatness. (5) Brother, in the three worlds and the three times there is no other Lord as beholden to love as Rama. He told the monkey, “I am in your debt”—who else would honor service so? (6) Tulsi, if seeing Rama’s affection and gracious character has not brought devotion into your heart, your mother bore you in vain and wasted her youth on your dull body. (7)
