एकै दानि-सिरोमनि साँचो। जोइ जाच्यो सोइ जाचकताबस, फिरि बहु नाच न नाचो॥ १॥ सब स्वारथी असुर सुर नर मुनि कोउ न देत बिनु पाये। कोसलपालु कृपालु कलपतरु, द्रवत सकृत सिर नाये॥ २॥ हरिहु और अवतार आपने, राखी बेद-बड़ाई। लै चिउरा निधि दई सुदामहिं जद्यपि बाल मिताई॥ ३॥ कपि सबरी सुग्रीव बिभीषन, को नहिं कियो अजाची। अब तुलसिहि दुख देति दयानिधि दारुन आस-पिसाची॥ ४॥

You alone are the true crown of givers. Whoever asked you once, compelled by his very asking, did not have to dance the beggar’s dance again and again. (1) Demons, gods, humans, and sages are all self-interested; no one gives without receiving. But the compassionate guardian of Kosala is a wish-tree who melts when a head bows once. (2) Even in your other incarnations, Hari, you preserved the Veda’s dignity: though Sudama was your childhood friend, you gave him treasure only after receiving his parched rice. (3) Monkey, Shabari, Sugriva, Vibhishana—whom did you not make free from asking? Treasury of compassion, the terrible demoness of hope now torments Tulsi. (4)
